Since the UPSs are not connected directly to the network (that would be done using the optional NMC card) I would connect the two UPSs to two different servers. I am assuming the servers are connected to the network. Load ULNM on to the two servers. Now you can control the UPSs and configure them the way you want.

You can load MUMC (two being the smallest "multi" configuration) on a third server, notebook, etc or any other device on your network. You can then manage the UPSs from the system that has MUMC loaded. You can't have MUMC and ULNM running on the same computer. If you try this the install program for whichever program you try to load secong will raise a flag.

ULNM User's Guide support.dell.com/.../ulnmug.zip

MUMC User's Guide support.dell.com/.../mumcug.zip

from MUMC you can push the settings of one UPS onto ther others, in your case other.

ULNM is optimal for a 1:1 situation especially through the USB port. MUMC is optimal for managing multiple UPSs through the network either through a local ULNM installation or directly therough the optional NMC card.

Hello avdf

First I would install the latest ULNM/MUMC:

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/555/DriverDetails/Product/dell-line-interactive-tower-ups-1000t?driverId=RV94V&fileId=2995477517

If that does not resolve the issue I would try to find out where the problem is. Bypass the hub and plug both UPSs directly into the server if possible. If that does not work then plug just the new UPS into the server.

Make sure that you are using auto-discovery to detect the UPS. If you still have issues post the results of further testing here.

Thanks

Hey Daniel,

I installed the ULNM and it now shows both of the UPSes under auto discovery. It shows the currently in use one but has it marked as Not Managed, and the new one as OK.

If I set the Not Managed UPS as Power Source I don't get any information out of it in the Power Source view.

How can I get the ULNM to manage it as well?

Thanks!

The R210 has a single power supply and consumes no more than 300W so clearly there is other "stuff" on your two 3750W UPSs. To help you out I need to understand how your UPSs are connected and what is connected to them. Is your intention to have the UPSs act like a "light switch" in terms of power to your attached equipment, or do you want your attached equipment to shut down gracefully?

We have a half rack that contains three PowerConnect switches, a KVM, a PowerVault 114X, two PowerEdge R210 IIs (four when completed), two PowerEdge R710s, a PowerVault MD3200 and the two 3750W UPSes.

I want to split the power load between the two UPSes and I eventually want to setup some sort of event handling to put the servers in power save mode if power is lost for X period of time and if need be, to gracefully shut down.

Ok, I connected the UPSs to my R710s, one on each and installed the ULNM and then I installed the MUMC onto the R210 II I've been using so far. Everything seems to be working good, and I'll explore the event handling later. One other question I have is on the MUMC, it lists the nodes fine, but it says they're "Not Accessible". Is there a way I can fix that?

are you referring to the "key" symbol? The key has a red X on it and when you mouse over the key it states "Acess denied"? If this is the case on MUMC you can go to anywhere where you see the UPS in question. Highlight the UPS and then right click. One of the options is Set Node Access Parameters. Cick on it. enter the userid and password for the ULNM application. If you didn't change it on ULNM then it is admin admin. Once you type it in and ULNM synchs the key wil lose the red X and the userid will be displayed next to it.

The columns at the top can be customized to show UIP address, name, etc. On any existing column go to the pull down and select "columns"
