vm6deploy question

Hello all,

I hope someone can assist with this question. We are trying to use the vm6deploy.bat file included with the iDRAC utilities to deploy an ESX host. The iDRAC is v 1.5, v 1.7 firmware. We have prepared an ISO and IMG file to use however attempting to run this script throws the error below"

**error: unknown option '-f'
**error: argument missing for 'd:\test\test.img'
"Check if IPMI over lan is Enabled"

If I run the vm6deploy.bat file omitting the -f option, it runs, however it throws the following error:
Setting next boot device
Error: Unable to establish IPMI v2 / RMCP+ session
Unable to send RAW command (channel=0x0 netfn=0x0 lun=0x0 cmd=0x8)
"Check if IPMI over lan is Enabled"

I realize these are two separate issues, but would appreciate any insight on either. Thanks!

Have you made sure to enable IPMI over Lan on the iDRAC?

See the 4:19 mark on this video to see how to enable this setting via the GUI iDRAC interface.

You can also enable IPMI over LAN via the iDRAC menu during POST / boot by pressing Alt + E

Hi Peter,

Yes, it is enabled, verified through the DRAC. Is there an additional port required for this? I would assume it's over 443. Thanks!

I'm not sure about why -f is not working. Perhaps it's a formatting error?

For the IPMI issue, try using -lan instead of -lanplus per the following 2 posts:

Peter,

it appears there might be a firewall issue involved. If I run this command from a server in the same zone, it works fine.Using -lan instead of -lanplus didn't help. Do you know what specific ports might be required here? I am attaching the output below from the server trying to connect across zones. Thanks.

----------------

Setting next boot device

Error: Unable to establish LAN session

Unable to send RAW command (channel=0x0 netfn=0x0 lun=0x0 cmd=0x8)

"Check if IPMI over lan is Enabled"

Hi again, after having a recent conversation with the iDRAC team, I don’t think VMdeploy uses IPMI - We think it uses Virtual Media and that uses the same ports as standard VNC…  5900
