Where to set Maximum Temperature Threshold?

Question

I've got a PE 1750 with an odd ambient temperature warning.  Due to this machine being at the top of of a full rack, it runs a bit warm (that's going to be remedied soon, but not for a month or so). Ambient temperature varies between 36 and 38 C.  It alarms at the Warning Threshold,  38 C.  I'd love to bump that up to 39 C, but I can't.  For some reason, the Failure Threshold is also set at 38 C, and OM won't let me set a higher value than this.  All the other 1750s we have are set to a 50 C Failure Threshold.  I'm new to this server setup so I don't have any history as to how the Failure Threshold got set so low. I'd like to raise this threshold to match the other servers.  I've looked all over (including inside the OM .dlls and .ini files) and I can't seem to see where this could be set.  I've seen mention of using  the 'PV660F SubSystem' to set this, but even if I enable this in the Array Manager, that branch of the console tree doesn't show up. My guess here is that this is something I'll have to set on the machine BIOS.  Does anybody know if this is true or not? I'm using OpenManage 3.4.0, BIOS rev. A05 (06/25/2003), Firmware: Baseboard Management Controller 1.73, Primary Backplane 1.01, Sensor Data Records SDR Version 0.33. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! -DP BTW, I also need to figure out why this machine is running 6 C hotter than the machine directly below it.  All that I can tell remotely is that Fan #4 is spinning ~1000 RPM faster than the others.  Seems like a trip to the data center is in order... Message Edited by d3llpickle on 04-27-2004 05:42 PM

The Ambient temperature warnings and fan issue are likely able to be resolved by the same actions. I'd recommend reseating the fan #4, however, in case it is just a connection/signal issue that is not related to the ESM or Server Administrator properties.

Regarding the ambient temperature warning, the Warning threshold cannot exceed the Failure threshold, so you need to increase the Failure threshold, which can be done via updates to ESM and Server Administrator.

I recommend updating your ESM, BIOS, and OpenManage ServerAdministrator to the latest revisions supported for your server and Operating System. The A35 ESM version does include fan stepping changes (which may reduce noise output). Along with the ESM update, install a later version of OpenManage Server Administrator (1.6, or 1.71, if Windows 2000 and above). You should find new, revised maximum Failure thresholds for Ambient temperature. Updating to the latest RAID Controller driver and firmware is recommended also, but may not be needed for the desired threshold changes.
