Dell Venue 11 Pro Intel Rapid Start error

Question

I am getting an error on restart that says I should disable intel rapid restart because I have whole disk encryption. I like that the computer came with whole disk encryption. Should I disable? How will that effect my computer?

It looks like Rapid Start was mistakenly installed by our factory on some of the mainstream devices. These devices do not actually support Rapid Start - you need a vPro configuration for it to work. I'd suggest you disable and/or uninstall Rapid Start. Note that you likely also have an 8GB partition that was created because of this - you can search for this in the disk management tool under computer management and reformat that partition to get that space back as usable again.

Please confirm this as I have the same device yet there are BIOS settings for Intel's Rapid Start. Hyper threading and virtualization are also listed by Intel as vPro feature sub-sets but I know for sure they don't require a full vPro proc to run.

IRST only works on the Junction vPro configurations. IRST is not compatible with systems that use connected standby, so it won't work on the Venue 8 Pro, the Venue 11 Pro 5130 or the Venue 11 Pro 7130 with Core processor.

Due to a factory error, IRST was accidentally installed on some Venue 11 Pro 7130 systems with Core processors. This includes the creation of an 8GB IRST partition on the drive. In addition and making this even more confusing, the current version of the BIOS has a subsection for Rapid Start configuration. IRST will display the error mentioned above in windows if drive encryption is enabled.

BIOS A07 will likely be the version that removes (as it should) the rapid start section in the BIOS for the mainstream 7130.

You should uninstall the IRST application and you can recover and use the 8GB of drive space via disk management. I'm trying to determine if there is a way to merge this with the other partition on the drive or not. Hope this helps.

Brian, In that case, what partitions should we see in Disk management?

I see several that I don't normally see on a Windows Machine:

500MB EFI System Partition

40MB OEM Partition

2Gb Recovery Partition

101.82GB Boot, page file, crashdump, primary partition

6.77GB Recovery partition

8GB Primary Partition.

Is that last one the one you are talking about? I DO have IRST software installed and I DO see an 8GB partition, but just want to verify that this is THE partition to delete.

Why two recovery partitions?

Yah can we get a list of drivers as well to make sure what drivers are supposed to be there, and what programs are supposed to be installed as well. Since we might have a case of unnecessary installed software for no reason, it might be a good idea to get a complete list and get that taken care of, since doing a restart just installs the stuff bak onto it anyways.

I'm getting this error also. My rapid start is disabled but not uninstalled. I'll have to look into uninstalling and recovering the 8gb lost partition.

Is it 100% for sure that Intel Rapid Start does not work on 7130 systems?

I disabled disk encryption and no errors anymore. There is no need for me to have my disk encrypted. Intel Rapid Start shows now 'on' without errors.

Don't want to delete something that could have a negative impact on performance.

Brian mentioned its junk software installed in wrong device, so basically its just software but no hardware to make it actually work, its just going to seem like its working or the application is going to say its on but its just taking up GB space in ur hard drive because rapid start technology or the parts are not in ur Intel chip so its just junk software.
