Dell Venue 8 (3830/Android) Bluetooth Keyboard Nonfunctional with Android 4.3
I've had my Dell Venue 8 since purchasing it for Dell's Black Friday event. After dealing with the non-responsive touch-screen issue and getting a replacement (which works), I purchased a Bluetooth keyboard (which doesn't work).
The BT keyboard successfully pairs/connects with the Dell Venue 8, but does not show up as an input device and therefore you cannot use it. After researching some on the Internet, people have complained that after upgrading (on other devices, such as Nexus) from 4.2.2 to 4.3, their bluetooth keyboard stopped functioning. Unfortunately, I upgraded my tablet to 4.3 a long time ago, and have no way of testing 4.2.2, but I can confirm that bluetooth keyboards do not in fact work with 4.3 (at least as it was upgraded) on my Venue.
Does anyone else have this problem? Have you found a specific fix?
Some of my research has uncovered some people claiming that they have fixed it by doing some things that require rooting, which is not something I want to do. There are some apps that even claim to fix it, which also need the device rooted.

Dell should have a Dell fix for this, or give us KitKat 4.4, assuming that fixes it, which some say so.

no issues using Bluetooth Keyboard with both my Dell Venue 8 tablets with v4.3 os

just paired a logitech bluetooth keyboard to my venue 8 running 4.3 paired instantly and seems to work just fine. i wrote this message using it. no delay at all. on screen keyboard doesnt even pop up.

Can you provide what BT version is used by your KB? I do know the KB I purchased works perfectly with iOS and my Dell laptop, as well as a Samsung tablet. Just not the Dell.
There was some indication that the version of the protocol might have had something to do with it.

It is a ZAGG m/n Y-R0023. Aluminum back. Designed as a cover for for an iPad. I picked it up at a thrift store for 4 bucks. I'm not sure of the Bluetooth version.

Thanks. I found the keyboard but cannot find the BT version. Logitech doesn't say -- only that it is a BT HID device. I'm using an Anker T300, which I can confirm does not work with mine.
Does anyone have any other model examples to look at? If another keyboard works, I'm interested in the specifications from it to see if I can ascertain why.

The only clue I might have is the fact that I picked it up at a thrift store so it is probably pretty old. Probably designed for iPad 1. I have one more BT keyboard. I'll try that one out.

I have the same problem with a newer BT keyboard. 4.3 bug as mentioned in this thread. Pairs OK (tablet understands the 4 digits I type for the pairing and tapping on the keyboard after the screen darkens awakens the tablet, but no characters show up.

It is a recently purchased Periboard-805L made by Perixx (perixx.com). I also have an older BT keyboard that was designed for an IPad that works fine with my Android 2.2 phone but exhibits the exact same bad behavior on my Venue 8. From my research, it is the Android 4.3 BT bug. But hopefully, with KitKat soon on my Venue, my problems will go away (or so I hope)/
