Dell Venue 8 4.4 KitKat glitches
I got the update around 12am CST. Since then I have noticed the following:
Random screen freezes
SD card not registering
Apps not working
Lower tolerances to internal heat build up
Jerkiness when scrolling on the web and Facebook.
Does anyone know if Dell did a soak test of this build before they released it?

You nailed it Jeff.
Thought I was the only one with the exact same problems.
Waiting on a fix and have advised my wife to delay update on her Venue 7.

Mine has really been getting buggy, now I have random reboots and the screen shuts off while I'm watching videos, even while plugged in and "keep screen on while charging" has been checked.
I miss having a Motorola device. This will be the last time I buy/accept a Dell.

Your point no. 1 is the most annoying that I have experienced.
After updating to 4.4, lots of my apps were also updated over the next couple of days which helped with some of the problems I had been experiencing.
However, it still has the black spots and my wallpaper will typically go back to default after a freeze and reboot!

I'm not sure about "read only", but what happened to my Dell tablet after the 4.4.2 update was that the SD card is not longer recognized. A message to reformat shows up. I did the reformat once, but after a little while, it prompts again to format. Sometimes is readable and others doesn't even show up as mounted. :(
On top of that, the tablet reboots often, especially when starting an app. Or, I have to force a reboot because the screen freezes.

After the update the screen brightness automatically increases even when the auto brightness is off its very annoying i reached it and found it is due to content adaptive brightness.i hope dell removes it in the next update.

I have all the same problems. Very unstable. Eventually have to power off. Also, keep loosing my desktop wallpaper. Looping thru password screen, black squares, keyboard invisible in Play Store. Even lost a wifi key. The list just goes on. It is a real bummer because it worked so great before the 4.4.2 update.
My time zone is correct.

I have had exact same with dell venue 7. Tablet rock solid on 4.3, now unusable with kitkat. Am sending this on, my old Asus tf300. Any ideas?

Just to add my +1 to this. My V8 would run for days/weeks before under 4.3, but since 4.4.2 multiple unsolicited reboots each day are now common. For me it's most common to happen when starting Clash of Clans. It doesn't happen every time, but if it does happen it'll happen shortly after I tap the icon to start the game. And when it does, I go from starting the game to staring at a Dell logo while it reboots without warning. Was excited at first to get 4.4.2 but disappointed in how it turned out.

Hi PapsJohn ,Alguti2000 ,umar-steam ,ironbilbo , libergm , ONStephen,
We are sorry about the situation, to rectify this issue please follow the steps below.
Press and hold the power button until the tablet completely powers off
With AC power connected to the tablet, Press Volume Down and the Power Button (Volume Down + Power) at the same time.
Select RECOVERY
When you see the Android Robot Icon, Press Volume Up and the Power Key (Volume up + Power) at the same time
Select "Wipe Data/Factory Reset" then select "Yes - Delete all user data to factory reset"
After factory reset completes, select "reboot system now" to reboot system.
System should recover and boot into the current update version of Android OS
Let me know about the progress.

Does this procedure do something different to the tablet than a doing a factory reset using "Settings?"
I have already done that, twice. Wiped everything and still have the problems that others are describing here. Probably the most irritating are the block boxes that cover the screen while trying to read magazine/newspaper articles and, the reboots!

Dear DELL-Senthil S,
I am sorry to say that resetting the tablet as you instructed has not corrected the problems.
Apps still crash, black boxes appear over portions of select apps, and I've had another random reboot.
I didn't experience any of these issues before upgrading to 4.4.2.
Any other help would be greatly appreciated.

You reverted to 4.2. How exactly did you do this? I would like to revert to 4.3, from KitKat, but I dont want to brick the tablet. Thanks
