Dell Venue 8 4.4 KitKat glitches
I got the update around 12am CST. Since then I have noticed the following:
Random screen freezes
SD card not registering
Apps not working
Lower tolerances to internal heat build up
Jerkiness when scrolling on the web and Facebook.
Does anyone know if Dell did a soak test of this build before they released it?

Well, after following Dell-Senthil S instructions, my tablet is more stable. After following the instructions, I still had issues with the SD card and some crashes. However, I reformatted the SD card, and that issue went away. Once all the apps were reinstalled and updated, I have had no unwanted reboots.

Some apps that worked well with Jellybean may not work as well with kitkat. This sort of thing happens with every version upgrade I have ever experienced. My first table was 2.1 eclair so I have been through this quite a few times. Even though a factory data reset is not required I think it is always a good idea. As soon as I got the 4.4.2 update I started noticing glitches. As soon as that happened I did a "Factory Data Reset" throught the settings menu My tablet works perfectly now. It takes time for all your apps to update to the current kitkat compatible version. Some just won't work after an upgrade. In fact it could be one single buggy app causing all your problems. I'm sure there have been no updates from dell but all your other apps have updated little by little. BUt then again there are for sure different hardware versions of the venue 8. Mine would not update to 4.3 until Dell put out a fix for that. It could be partly hardware related but my bet is on buggy incompatible apps for most people.

After the factory reset, mine was not immediately working OK, until all the apps had been restored. I had to reformat the SD card, and that started working. I have not seen the SD issue for almost a week.
For several days, I didn't experience any sudden reboots, while trying to launch specific apps. I ran out of luck. Yesterday, it started doing it again. So, the spontaneous reboots are back, although the SD issues has not reappeared.

And, as if invoked by my previous comment, the SD card issue just appeared again. :emotion-6:
So, officially, the factory reset did nothing to fix the issues introduced by Android KitKat.
I wondering if Dell did any test on KitKat whatsoever. I'm starting to think that I should've gotten the Samsung tablet, instead. :(

While my issues persist, I have isolated the occurrence of my issues 1 to 3 to only happen when I either am (a) using the stock AOSP (Android open source project) browser or (b) any app that uses the AOSP rendering engine. That unfortunately is greatly limiting. Once the issues are triggered they make the entire tablet unstable including apps that do not use AOSP rendering. Reboot to resolve.
The Chrome browser does not use AOSP rendering, so switching browsers has helped a great deal. I have no idea though how to tell other third party apps to use Chrome rendering. Anyone else know?

I also have same problems after the update to KITKAT. THe previous version was flawless.
I am currently experiencing:
-random reboots
-Micro SD card not recognized.
- Apps closing / crashing.
Please advise.
THanks,
Peter

I stopped using the web browser that comes with the tablet and have had much less problems. I use Chrome or Dophlin sometimes. I mistakenly use "Browser", but stop it as soon as I catch my mistake.
So, in a nutshell, I still have some problems, but they are now less frequent now that I stopped using "Browser".

My problems have started to reoccur. Microsd card not recognized and failure of web pages fully loading in chrome until I close apps manually. Wish I could back track to 4.3.

New issue since doing a factory reset. The screen flashes the digitizer architecture in bright neon colors with a black background. Then screen goes dark, have to reboot to use it for another 4 hours and then like clockwork it happens again. There are times where I have to do a "battery pull" to get it working.

jkn, click his name and then "send private message" or something like that. Worked fine for me just a few minutes ago. (FWIW, I'm using Firefox on Linux.)
Hope that helps,
Stephen
