Dell Venue Pro 8 HDCP problem

I recently bought a Dell Venue Pro 8 64 GB.  I am having a problem with watching HDCP protected contents.  For example, Vudu.com cannot stream HD ultraviolet movies to the device saying that both the output and display need to support HDCP.  I have done all the Windows updates but that did not solve it.  It should not be that a devices released in 2013 is not HDCP compliant.  Does anyone have a suggestion on howto fix this problem?

Update:  This issue is now fixed on my unit after updating to the latest BIOS (A09) and the latest chipset driver (603.9600.2067.27988,A05).  This is welcome news.  Even though I've had the tablet for a year now, I still use it a lot.

I am having the exact same problem. I'm trying to use vudu on my Dell Venue 8 Pro 32GB. I get this HDCP error on the venue 8 which is running Windows 8.1.

On my Windows XP and Windows 7 computers I can play vudu just fine.

I looked it up, but I am not sure exactly what I can do. How can I get the output and display to be have HDCP support? The error is #3339.

I agree, if anyone buys a new pc (or tablet in this case)  running the latest version of Windows, the video should just able to play. Please help.

I am also  having the exact same problem. Are these forums that are sponsored by Dell not monitored by someone from Dell?

Hello all,

I figured it out myself. We are dummies. If we have devices that display 1280x800, then we wouldn't be able to play a Vudu HD or HDX movie, because our resolution is doesn't go to 1280x1080 like those movies/videos are. So if i change the display to SD in Vudu to go, then it works.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I don't know about Vudu (I get my content from LoveFilm), I had to install Microsoft Silverlight to get it to work, maybe this would help you.

No, you didnt. Youre still a dummie. It has nothing to do with resolution, of course a device with lower full hd could play full hd. However, the reason why the V8P cant, and never will do, is, just one thing, the lack of an HDMI output, as simple as that. If your device has HDMI, it can play HDCP, if it has no HDMI, it cant.

^^Actually that is not true. The Toshiba Encore has a mini HDMI out and it can't play HDCP content either. The only Windows 8.1 8'' tablet that can play HDCP content that I've seen is Lenovo Thinkpad 8, which does have a better processor, hdmi out and 1080 res.

That being said, could anyone from DELL comment on whether the Venue 8 Pro might be able to play HDCP in the future, since it really appears to be based more on the processor than anything else?

This issue has nothing to do with whether or not the device has an external video port.  The HDCP error that is occurring is due to the internal connection between the GPU and the display.  For some reason, this connection is being considered to be a "user accessible bus" and therefore requires HDCP to be enabled on it.  Whether or not HDCP is enabled on this connection is purely up to Dell, however it cannot be done after the fact, since HW keys are required to enable it.

This is a thoughtless error on the part of Dell, and I hope they don't continue to do things like this in the future.

I've updated to Chipset A05 and BIOS A10, yet I still receive the same HDCP error (#3339) when trying to view HD or HDX VUDU to Go or VUDU.com content.

I can't figure out how to force VUDU-to-Go to stream SD video so I can only use it to watch my SD VUDU content (which is like 5 pieces of Content), but while you can't tell it to play SD content specifically, if try to watch something HD or HDX on vudu.com it'll error out prompt you with an option to watch it in SD.

So... basically I can only watch my VUDU content on my Dell V8P while streaming from Vudu.com, which is better than nothing, but I'm curious if there's something I can update/configure to prevent HDCP error #3339 from happening? Why does the Dell V8P even have these HDCP issues?
