DELL Venue Pro 8 - Missing SLEEP option after update
I own a DELL Venue Pro 8. After updating drivers the tablet does not go to SLEEP and pressing the power button no longer places in the tablet in SLEEP mode. The SLEEP option is completely missing The tablet remains on constantly even when not used.
The updates I have applied are
Intel Atom Z3000 Series Driver
Intel Trusted Execution Engine Driver
Dell Wireless 5570 WWAN Mobile Broadband and GNSS (GPS) Driver
I have found a workaround.
I have found that disabling the Wirless 5570 Mobile Broadband driver from Windows Device Manager re-enables the SLEEP functionality. This would suggest that the problem is with the Wireless 5570 driver. I have tried downgrading to a previous version of this driver but the Mobile Broadband totally stops working.
I would guess that others are having the same problem, if you have not applied the most recent updates and have a Dell Venue Pro 8 with a 3G card it would be a good idea to not upgrade drivers at this point in time.

In the end I refreshed the Windows OS files and installed A03. Could not get A04 or A05 working at all.
It is clear that these updates have not been tested on the Dell Venue Pro 8. I would strongly recommend avoiding updating the driver for the 3G card until a fit for purpose driver is released.
The reality is that Dell have released a product with digital pen that does not work properly and a 3G card that does not work properly. In general I would avoid Dell Windows tablets in the future, if you are not compelled to use Windows 8.1 I would recommend that you buy an Apple iPad.
The iPad is a fantastic table.

I would like to add the name of the 3G Wireless driver download for the 5570 3G card is
Communications_Driver_YNYTO_WN_5.15.4178.503_A05.EXE
The previous versions were also a bit dodgy so please take care or you'll end up with a non-working tablet.

Another update, after doing some research I have found that after using powercfg -availablesleepstates from the commondline it is reported that Mobile Broadband hardware does not fulfil the requirements for connected standby. I wonder if this is why SLEEP mode is no longer available?
The Mobile Broadband on the Dell Venue Pro 8 was always dodgy, is this the reason?

Unfortunately, I do not have a recovery point setup so at the moment I am stuck with this problem.

After installing the A05 update of the Mobile Broadband driver on my Dell Venue 8 Pro the network card disappearded completely. Unstalling the driver and installing an older one did not work either, so I had to go back to an older restore point in Windows 8. What is wrong with this driver???

Try to disable the network card, do a restart and se if the problem still is present.
We can just wait and hope for an updated driver soon.

I got the same problem with A04 and latest A05 drivers.
A03 is working but has the side effect that sometimes - with 3G enabled - the Tablet doesnt respond from sleep.

With the help of a very polite Dell Engineer the problem was resolved by using Windows 8.1 "Refresh your PC without affecting your files" to reinitialise the Windows OS. This solved the problem, the SLEEP functionality returned but it meant that I had to setup the tablet again..
I do not store any data files on my tablet so I didn't have to worry about personal data. I've had to re-install Microsoft Office and I am currently re-applying Windows updates. I have installed security updates so far. I'll carefully apply the Windows 8.1 updates, one at a time just in case the problem was caused by a clash with a Windows 8.1 update.
I am extremely reluctant to update any driver software at the moment. Realistically, it is a good idea to wait until an upgrade or update is at least 6 months old before applying it. The Dell download web page lists the previous couple of releases in addition to the latest one.

Hi All,
I have a VP 11 i3 4020Y + WWAN 5570e. Where by the power sleep option was missing and the WWAN kept appearing and disappearing after installing different version of the WWAN driver,
I have finally managed to resolve the issue maybe by fluke but its been working well for the last 30 minutes - WWAN 5570 available and Power/Sleep button working.
My current configuration when i check the driver properties in device manager under Network for the WWAN 5570e :
Driver Provider: Microsoft
Driver Date: 31/10/2013
Driver Version: 6.3.9600.16453
With the above driver installed I can see the broadband but the power button + sleep function is missing.
Now here is the interesting bit, i have been doing some reading and have discovered that the WWAN 5808e card had a similar issue as above and it was fixed in the latest version.
www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails
I thought I would try installing this driver even though i do not have the WWAN 5808e card. So i downloaded the above 211MB driver - Communications_Driver_TFRW0_WN_6.1.4194.503_A03.EXE
After running the above exe. my WWAN 5507e card disappeared from network connections and then magically appeared and connected to my mobile provider (EE in my case).
I then tried the power and to my surprise it worked.
I hope this helps someone - I have spend a few hours trying to get this resolved,
Dell pull your finger out and get this sorted so we don't have to find fudges to make you hardware work :)
Thanks
J
