Dell Venue Pro 8.1 model T01D

I have the same problem. A friend of mine bought a used Dell Model T01D Tablet. It will not boot to Windows without a system or administrator password. I have a second of the Dell logo and then a black screen with a very small touch screen keypad and a prompt to enter the password. This unit states that it is a Dell portable computer tablet Venus 8 Pro model T01D. Note this unit reads Venus, not Venue, and the model T01D does not come up with Dell support. I believe this unit is a Dell knockoff. Made in China. The true tablet is called a Venue 8 Pro. Sorry.

Any luck?  I have a Dell Venue 8 model T01D that I upgraded to Windows 10 (officially per Dell it's supported) but I really want to get back to 8.1.  Dell was even kind enough to send me a package containing an OTG cable and a 8GB USB stuck containing their official Windows 8 Pro image for this Venue (seems legit, it's stamped with a MS and Dell logo, has a Dell part number of 7478v_A00), but I can't get the darn tablet to boot from it.

If I switch the boot order in the BIOS settings, it ignores it and boots to Windows 10 anyway. Even if I delete the Windows Boot Loader option entirely.

If I hold shift while restarting from 10 and get to the recovery options and tell THAT to boot from USB, it also simply ignores it.

Back in the BIOS settings I tried to add a new boot entry and I browse the USB stick to the '/efi/boot/bootx64.efi' as the file location, and then it asks me for a file name (no idea why, I just selected a file in the list), but no matter what I type there (junk or 'bootx64.efi' again, whatever), it simply dumps back to the boot options and doesn't add an entry.

I've tried booting with this USB being the only thing in the drive, or using a powered hub (as recommended by these instructions from Dell) connected to the USB and a keyboard/mouse. No luck, still just ignores it and boots up as normal.

Secure Boot is off.

I don't know what to try next, any help would be appreciated.  Dell sent me this stick and OTG cable as a courtesy, but won't provide actual support to get it installed because the tablet is past warranty. I only paid $99 for the tablet and they want several times that to help me, so I'm on my own.

I guess I should be happy it is in working order with Windows 10, but there's issues with it and I'd like to put this thing back to day 1 condition. I don't understand why it won't boot from the stick.  And honestly, what would Dell do if I sent it to them?  If they have these pre-made recovery USB sticks, why doesn't it work?

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE:  As I count it, you've posted this same comment/inquiry at least 6 times, under different threads started by others.  That really just confuses and clutters matters, and wastes others' time, looking at all your comments.  PLEASE, limit yourself to a single thread and/or start your own?

I only posted it in the specific targeted threads that concern this precise exact issue.  I would like to be notified of any progress in any of these threads, and to share with each of the users that are also experiencing this issue.  The only way to communicate with each separate user having the issue is to post in each of the conversations.

Typically if multiple diverse people are having the same issue, forum moderators will group the conversation into a single combined thread so that everyone can work together and cooperate.

Likewise, I didn't post a new fresh thread only for myself, because that on the other hand truly would be wasteful and duplicative.  I don't want to create a new thread all together for myself, because then I can't share and communicate with the other users already discussing this same subject.  Plus if they ever found a resolution, they would not know I had another brand new/empty thread about it, so I'd never get to benefit from their knowledge.

Seems like these forums are incredibly mismanaged.

Umm, I kinda understand you, but 6 separate but identical posts?  And then, while that might serve your own goals, you get people who try to keep up with the threads going into 6 separate threads, thinking that there is something new there [and kinda wasting their time].

Just saying.  And in the end, you might get more eyes looking at your post and issue if you posted your own thread, with a descriptive subject matter title . . . .

the tablet is not stolen because it has her pictures of her on the tablet as a background,

she just cant remember the password we have talked about 3 days so far and still she cant remember

i was wondering if there is a way to hard reset this tablet i cannot seem to find anything on google.

I'm having the same problem with the same tablet and wondered if this problem ever got fixed. I've not been able to find much if any information on this tablet and if I do it seems to be for the Android version.

Use the Microsoft windows media creator tool on Microsoft website to create a USB recovery tool. You can find it on Microsoft.com  i found that usb it Is looking for a specific recovery USB  Drive that you would have created when you bought the tablet brand new if you didn't create it or you don't have it then when it doesn't work it doesn't work it doesn't notify you and say that it failed it just keeps on seeming to do nothing. After you create  The USB recovery tool then use the OTG And plug the drive into it reboot the  Tablet and it should just do it if not then you'll have to go and try to go through the  Recovery like you explained.
