Dave,

I've read that Dell is currently working on Android 2.1 for the Streak (expected sometime in September) so don't it expect it anytime before that. In response to your other question, check out the forum link below. Hope this helps.

If I'm not mistaken, Froyo is Android 2.2.  Watch for updates on Direct 2 Dell for the latest information on when it will be available for the Dell Streak!

I was planning on pre-ordering the Streak when it is released her in the US, but I am not so sure I want to now. I hear it is going to be shipping with Android 1.6. My stock G1 has Android 1.6. It seems ridiculous that Dell would even consider releasing such a device with such and outdated version of Android.

I don't think giving us a link to a general Dell blog is the answer. If you want to grab people's pre-orders and hard earned money, you may want to offer up some info on when we can expect Froyo to be on these devices. Otherwise, I'm just waiting for the next great phone from HTC on T-Mobile and not looking back. It already angers me that Dell put a non-standard charger on the phone instead of using Mini or Micro USB like every other Android phone out there.

Just found out that the Dell Streak will ship w/ 1.6 but as soon as you activate it will update to 2.0. better than nothing. Then will update to 2.1 in September.

Well that is better. I don't see why 2.1 wouldn't already be out though and 2.2 be released in September. The N1 already has 2.2 and several others will have it this month or next month as well. It really seems like a poor business decision to me. People want the new stuff. If you keep your device a generation behind, people will move to something that isn't.

I'm in the UK and have had my streak for about a month.  The Dell did indeed ship with 1.6, However on mydellsteak in a developer interview they said that they would be going straight to 2.2 in September.  I've activated my phone and check on a daily basis for an update but am still on 1.6.  Don't get me wrong the phone is great at the moment but I'm excited about live wallpaper and live compiling 2.2 provides.  It has also been said that developing the 2.2 FW is quicker than the earlier Android OS's so Dell would be saving time and effort goind straight to 2.2.

If that is true, I would have no problem pre-ordering. I've also hear conflicting reports on it working with T-Mobile 3G. I wish Dell would release some more information to ease my mind. Hopefully when it comes up for pre-order in the US they will do just that.

It will work as a phone on T-Mobile but will not be able to get T-Mobile 3G.  The phone doesn't have both of the bands that is needed to recognize the 3G network on T-Mobile.

See that is what I heard. Then I saw some stories of a new Streak going through the FCC approval that will support it.

I was lied to by the sales person on a High Street store (Tottenham Court Road) - he looked me in the eye and assured me that this device (the Dell Streak) came pre-loaded with Android 2.1. I was horrified when I turned on the unit and discovered it was Android 1.6. I mean, really - what was Dell thinking? I can understand that everyone is trying to rush to market in this new and exciting tablet space, but releasing a product that performs like a pre-alpha prototype unit is simply unacceptable. I think Dell's decision to rush on this one will do it more damage than good. The hardware is fantastic, but the unit is simply let down by a version of Android that has been around since the early days of Android. Shocking.
