How to get formatting back in posts here? Attn.: Moderators ...

Sorry to ask, but: how do I get formatting back in posts here? Had it originally, and then it disappeared perhaps 2 months ago. Nowadays, even if I type in a paragraph break in the middle of a post, the post ultimately appears as 1 long, run-on paragraph. I suspect that it's unique on a per-account basis, as I see some other (but not all) posts with paragraph breaks, but I just can't get it to work. Even switching in my account settings (Advanced Options, Content Editor) from "Enhanced" to "Plain Text" or back again does nothing. Likewise, links appear just as text and not as links nowadays for me, when I insert them. Help?!? (And there is a non-appearing paragraph break just before the word "Help" here . . . .)

In IE11 add dell.com to Compatibility View setting...

Thanks for the response. Haven't tried a different browser, as I'm doing this on my DV8P itself using IE11 as originally installed (Desktop version)--I guess I'm assuming that this would work and, in fact, it did up until a couple of months ago. And I guess I'm assuming that this is a Dell website issue. But perhaps too many assumptions my part? Moderators?

And just to add, I just tried a post here using Metro IE11, and it, also, does not insert formatting such as paragraph breaks for me . . . .

Mikerman,

Did you try a different browser?

To add pictures, etc, you are correct, you need to change the content editor to Enhanced, like you have it set.

Milkerman,

I am using a Dell Venue 8(3830)Android to post this.

First triedb Mozilla Firefox and it would not paragraph. The only way I could get it to paragraph, was to continue typing, then go back and hit return. I will report this to the person that takes care of the forums.

I used Google Chrome to post this.

Nope--as you can see, the website just isn't saving the paragraph breaks for me, using IE11: they show as being typed, but get stripped out by the website when the "Post" button is clicked. (Likewise, as I mentioned before, the website isn't processing links.) But the site CAN handle smiley faces, and frowns. :emotion-6:

And so, trying this now on my Dell Venue 8 Pro (Windows) using Desktop IE11 as originally installed. I'll try a paragraph break here, in the course of my typing. My typing shows that there should be a paragraph break before this sentence--we'll see if the website keeps it after I hit the "Post" button. And now, I'll try typing without a paragraph break, and add one after this sentence, but only after I've typed the following sentence, as you did. And so, there should be a paragraph break right before this sentence--we'll see.

Milkerman,

It's the forums software. I reported this to her. Not sure when the next upgrade will be.

On my Venue I used Chrome to post correctly, but because it is not a Windows system, I cannot use this to post my links and other information to help others.

on me Dell XPS L501x, I use Mozilla Firefox to do all my posting. I can add my bookmarks by copy and pasting them to make the links look better. The link you posted the other day would be click-able when I hit a space after posting the link

Many thanks. I just wanted to report this somewhere, on the hope that things could be fixed at some point, to enhance posting here. I thought that it likely was the forum software as, as I had said, things had been fine until maybe 2 months ago. And a few other users have posted similarly. What's the old saying? "if it ain't broke, don't fix it . . . ." :emotion-5:

Also, just to mention it: the website is a bit unfriendly to tablets in attempting to edit or delete a posted comment--one has to touch the area for the drop down edit/delete menu just so to get it to appear, with maybe a 1 in 5 or 10 chance that it then will appear. I don't know if this is new to the website as well, or just basic challenges that tablets sometimes have with websites.

(And by the way:  just to confirm that there is a full formatting toolbar--actually, 2 lines of toolbars--when I access the forum to post, using Chrome at my local library (there are no toolbars whatsoever when I use IE, either from my tablet or on the same library PC--if I recall correctly, there used to be, with IE).

Also, as you noted, I also can get paragraph breaks back via use of Chrome on the library desktop.

Seems that Dell and Microsoft are having a little bit of a war with each other . . . .   :emotion-5:  )

Well, good to hear that I'm not the only one . . . . Will use HTML for paragraphs--thanks for the mention.

And as to smileys, at least I know the answer to that: insert the smiley characters (e.g. ;) and :) ) within left and right brackets ( [ and ] ). :emotion-1:

Is there an ETA for the fix?
My settings are set to enhanced but all I get is a plain input field without any options.(no toolbar no nothing).
That is now for a few month. Can't include images change font or include any smiley. So far I enter HTML code for line breaks and paragraphs.

iGetThis,

No ETA for fix. Try a different browser, it varies from update to update. I use Mozilla Firefox for Windows Operating system on the forums.

Internet Explorer 11 has caused printing problems, so I currently have IE11 removed and it reverted back to IE10. I can see everything with IE10 but prefer Mozilla Firefox, so I can copy my bookmarks and paste them so they look like links without all the steps. (Example: Dell Mobile Devices Forum)

I do notice that the forums is not very friendly with tablets.

In IE11 add dell.com to Compatibility View setting...

Clever, clever, clever!

That did the trick, and the forum formatting is back to what it was, automatically doing paragraph breaks and with 2 rows of formatting tools!

Greg wins a new active stylus from Dell!  (Don't get too excited, Greg--I have no authority to award anything of the sort . . . .  But wouldn't it be nice if Dell shipped you one, now?!?)

Many thanks, again!   :emotion-1:
