Latitude 10: Wi-fi "Limited Connectivity" on Boot

Every time I boot up my Latitude 10 tablet (Windows 8 Pro), the Wi-Fi adapter connects to my home network with "Limited Connectivity".  I have to disconnect and then reconnect to get a working internet connection.  None of our other eight 802.11 devices in the household, or the myriad of other vistior devices, ever have this problem.  It is an annoyance that should be fixed, especially when one of the beauties of a tablet is supposed to be it's fast boot and ready access to information.

But overall I am thrilled with the versatility of my new Latitude 10... there are just a few kinks to work out.

OK, I did two things that seem to have helped me in this area. A few more days will tell.

(1) I disabled power management for the wifi card. I know this will hurt battery life, but I need better connectivity.

(2) I disabled Bluetooth Collaboration in the advanced device properties for the wifi card. I read on the net that this fixed it for some people.

I also updated the driver from the Lenovo site to version 5.93.97.83. I believe latest Dell version is 5.93.97.76. The Lenovo drivers worked fine.

I am experiencing the same issue with the Latitude 10 on wireless access points at work and home.

I upgraded to Windows 8 Enterprise, I have two unknown devices. Reported as "Intel UART DMA" and "Intel Low Power Subsystem DMA Controller" when I attempt to update the drivers. The driver install fails every time.

I didn't use Windows 8 Pro long enough to determine if the wireless was a problem before upgrade.

This is unrealted but how did you upgrade to enerprise?  When I tried using my disk it said it was unsupported on this model?  Do you have the 10 tablet?

I don't want to hijack this thread but the KB artical seems to be for 64bit only.  Also I am planning to do an inplace upgrade.  Did you have problems that way, is that why you did the wipe and install?  So it crashes?  How frequently and what is the issue with the crashing?

Yes, I originally installed it from an ISO mounted on a remote server and did an in place upgrade. Later I wiped the disk and installed it from USB. The USB drive needs to be formatted with fat32 for the UEFI bios. If the USB drive is formatted with NTFS, it won't install. Also remember that this is a 32bit processor so you need the 32bit version of Windows Enterprise.

I have resolved the driver installation problem thanks to support on TechNet. Once you install KB2756872, the drivers are recognized.

Unfortunately, this did not resolve issues with the device crashing or losing network connectivity. I have two problems still:

1. When resuming from sleep, I am intermittently losing my gateway on one or other of the network adapters. The device is enabled, but can't communicate with anything. The Ethernet port can be resolved by running the network troubleshooter. It identifies the gateway was lost and resets the adapter. The wifi can be fixed by disconnecting and reconnecting to the access point. It's faster than running the troubleshooter.

2. When the device goes into a deep sleep, the only way I have found to wake it up is to power it off completely and reboot.

I know, I couldn't find the 32bit package on the MS site, but when I checked Windows Update on the client, it was in the list so I installed it from there. That was just to resolve the missing Intel Drivers issue. Since they were related to the CPU and power, I thought they might have an impact on the other issues I was having.

I don't think there was any difference between doing an in-place vs. a clean install as far as performance/troubleshooting. Had I found this patch before I wiped the tablet, I might have been better off with the in-place upgrade. Other than the occasional network connectivity loss I don't think I had the shutdown problem.

So basically, when the tablet goes to sleep for an extended period of time it doesn't wake up. I have to reboot it by holding down the power button for 30 seconds. If it just goes to sleep for a short period of time, it occasionally has issues connecting to the network when it wakes up.

I have the same problem and tech support has been no help. In fact, Tech Support acts like this they've never heard of such a problem.   This is a deal breaker for me because I want to be able to use this outside my home. I can't ask Starbucks to reset the router so I can get on the net. If I don't get the problem resolved soon, it's going back and Dell will not have anymore of my business.

Did you resolve your issue?

OneOfAPair, I don't have to reset my router to clear, I just have to disconnect the Latitude 10 from my network and then immediately reconnect it.  It does take several minutes after boot before I can successfully do this.  If I try to soon, it gives me an error on the reconnect.  So I just keep trying and eventually it reconnects.  If I next time I wait longer (say about a minute or two), then I have no errors on reconnect and I only have to do it once. Although annoying, it has become part of my boot routine.  So maybe if this doesn't work for you just wait a little longer, but don't bother resetting your router -- that may just be a red herring that enabled enough time to pass for the Latitude 10 network device to "wake-up".

I'll also call Tech Support and report this.  I can't imagine we are the only ones, and eventually there will be a driver fix for this, so I'm holding out hope.  Except for a few annoyances, this is the ONLY thing that is really affecting my positive experience with my Latitude 10.

MtnMama999 is correct, you should just have to disconnect reconnect your WiFi after the tablet wakes up. The router does not have to be rebooted. I have been using the tablet alot this past week, and have had no problems. Applying all Windows updates available, both required and optional seemed to do the trick. There were several stability updates out there.

I have also seen limited wifi connectivity while connected to certain wireless routers (Netgear N150 and N600), but it works great at my office which has a Cisco/Linksys E4200.  An update would be nice.

I get limited connectivity on a random basis...all patches applied as of last night and received the message on boot-up this morning.  Disconnecting and re-connecting to the wireless network resolves the issue...kind of annoying.

One more here to report that the Wifi is wonky on the Latitude 10 tablet. I too get limited connectivity with my router at home, which is a classic Linksys WRT54G. And, as others have indicated, by simply disconnecting and then reconnecting solves the issue. And,as others have indicated, all of my other devices on that WiFi network have no issues with the router. But, as others have also said, this is what ought to be an unnecessary nuisance. I don't seem to have the same problem with the router at my office, which is a Belkin N600DB.

OP here to add the wireless router types that fail.  The house router is a Belkin N+ which gives the "Limited Connectivity".  When I connect to my Motorola Atrix hot spot it fails connection altogether until after a few minutes.  So different symptoms but same problem (several minute delay in successful connection).

have you tried disabling power management of the wifi card in the device manager properties tab? this might help. I do it for Bluetooth and wifi as a default.

What is also bothersome for me with this wifi setup is the speed. It test at 0.57 Mbps download with my device and 10.0 Mbps with my iPhone on the same wifi connection. Other laptops test the same as my iPhone. The Latitude 10 just won't hit the speeds. I cannot get speedtest.net to even work with any browser. I have to run a metro speed test utility.

My wireless connection strength constantly goes up and down when it stay solid on my other laptop. This Broadcom 4330 sucks so far.

Anyone else having these issues? I read on the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2 forum they are having the same issues in mass with the same wifi setup.
