Micro Serial Port Issue 7220 Tablet

Hello

I have 3 Latitude 7220 rugged tablets that has issues communicating through the micro serial port. It’s like the port is turned off on the tablet.

1. I have a Dell micro to serial cable

2. I have updated the serial driver

3. I have checked the BIOS to make sure a setting is not turned off.

3. Is there a setting that turns these ports on/off?

I’ve had no luck with either of these settings.

One thing to note is that I had purchase the Latitude 7212 tablet with no issues on the serial port communications but the 7220 tablets isn’t working

i appreciate any help or guidance

thanks

Hello,

I’m still having issues with the Micro Serial port on this Latitude Rugged 7220 tablet.

- I use Dell Command Update to update all the drivers on the tablet.
- After I did this a U-blox virtual com port driver got installed.

After this update the serial port started working, but it’s not very reliable. Sometimes it works and most times it won’t. I bought 3 of these 7220 tablets and they all have the same issue.

can you please help me to get this issue resolved?

thanks

Hi,

We have purchased a 7220 Ex and having the same issue. The port sometimes works, but mostly does not receive data packets at all.  We have tried the following

1. Rebooting

2. Reinstalling drivers

3. Fiddling with UART FIFO settings

4. Running troubleshooters

We have used Serial ports for 15+ years.  This is bread and butter tech for us.  The 7220 Ex simply doesn't function most of the time.

Service Tech told us to reinstall WIndows 10..

Why?

The keyboards come from Ikey and that manufacture knows that the keyboards are failing and won’t offer a solution but to buy another one that’s “improved design”. Our company has several hundred that have failed.

So info for anyone who has this issue. The problem the serial ports only work when the dell rugged service is running and the dell rugged control center is also running. I was having the same issue, but with the onboard GPS. It connects over serial as well. If the dell rugged service crashes you have to restart windows inorder for the serial ports to be reliable again. I have no idea the reason why the service and app need to be running for something as simple as a serial port to function.
