Onscreen Keyboard Settings Dell Venue Pro 8 inch Tablet
Hello Forum, just wondering if it is possible to have the onscreen keyboard on this Dell Tablet automatically appear on screen when you tap in a search box for example (similar to the way an android mobile phone works)
Currently I am positioning the cursor in the box in which I want to type.
Then clicking on the keyboard icon in scroll bar
Then re-positioning the screen so that the on screen keyboard does not cover search box
Then typing.....in desired text...........then hitting enter
So wondering if this can be set up to work more efficiently
Thanks in advance !!

Which operating system are you under? I'm assuming Win8.1, and that you're asking about the Windows Desktop--and the quick general answer is, no, without more.
And now, the longer answer:
-- Google's Chrome browser will auto pop up the keyboard, for text filling-in.
-- Otherwise, the keyboard does not pop up, at least as a general matter.
-- Having said that, at least one person has developed a utility that you can add to your system, to have the keyboard pop up when you would want it--the utility was pretty good when I tried it out earlier, although not totally accurate (you still may need to call the keyboard up manually, in some circumstances--I believe, for example, the Amazon website being a case-in-point). It's called AutoPopupKeyboard and can be read about/obtained through the link at http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/threads/free-tool-to-automatically-pop-up-keyboard-in-windows-edesktop-mode.63913/
-- There's a great tool I recommend to deal with the obscured screen issue: TouchMousePointer. Principally, TouchMousePointer is a utility that adds a virtual mouse to your tablet. This can be very handy, and is highly recommended. But a further and yet vital feature is available if you make a donation to the utility project (or, I believe, if you purchase a license to the utility's manager through the Microsoft app store): keyboard transparency. With that feature, you can "dim" the regular keyboard to a level that you like, so that you can see through it to the windows/screen below. This is very helpful for any typing, especially when your tablet is in landscape mode, with the keyboard covering more than half the screen.
TouchMousePointer is available at http://www.lovesummertrue.com/touchmousepointer/en-us/, and is freeware (donations accepted). Further, its Manager, to add further customization, can be tried and purchased through the Microsoft app store. The utility also recently became a component of a larger utility, whose name I can't recall right now.
-- If you're using the Internet Explorer app from the Windows Start screen, the keyboard does pop up for text insertion, etc.
-- Finally, if you start using Win10, I believed that there is a setting to have the keyboard pop up automatically.
Hope this helps!

Thak you Thank you !!!!
I will give these suggestions a try and report back in the hope the answers help others
For the record I was using Windows 8.1, then recently changed to Windows 10 on the tablet so I could carefully explore the new windows version before committing with other devices.
I had also only used Firefox...not even thinking that the browser itself might be the source of the problem
thanks again !!!
