So I downloaded and tried installing the driver that was released today thinking it would provide a little more stability with the stylus input, but I ran into a problem. While trying to install the driver, I get the following error message.
I've heard of a couple instances of this. For some reason, download and install (from dell.com) sometimes reproduces where download and save (and then install on your own) didn't. Also, make sure there aren't any yellow !s in device manager before attempting to run.
I have the Venue 8, and I've tried everything to get that firmware update. I get exactly what you have, but it seems like I'm the lone one unable to install it. Yes, it's saved on my desktop. I installed every other update from the site, and of course it's docked.
For those of you still seeing the problem on Venue 11, please try with the tablet disconnected from the dock. It appears that the flash can in some cases get confused with the synaptics touchpad (instead of the touch screen controller). Hopefully this will resolve for everyone seeing issues.
I have a venue 8 pro tablet that is getting synaptic error after trying to install the firmware. I cannot reinstall and have a yellow bang in the device manager on the the device that you mentioned to try and enable and disable. Any ideas on how to get touch back working?

Okay, so I tried again to install it when the tablet was docked and it's installing.
Problem solved, but weird...
edit: I guess the restart might have had some sort of effect on it, beats me.

The Venue 8 - docked? What dock?

Thanks.

I undoked and rebooted, and then tried the install again, and it worked for me too.

Are you running the file from your desktop (e.g. saved locally)? Any yellow !'s in device manager? Same exact error? Can you reboot and try again?

Ah, never mind. It worked fine when I detached the keyboard first (do you refer to that as a "dock"?)

Question: I installed the touch firmware and later did a Windows factory restore... do I have to re-install the firmware ?

Yes. I was just trying to update to the latest and greatest firmware. It worked fine before the update.

Haven't heard of this on the 8 before - let me check with my co-worker who is the expert on that system and get back to you.
