Power issues on a Dell Venue 8 Pro
Good afternoon from the Netherlands.
I'm the owner of a Venue 8 Pro tablet with Windows 8.1 on it. Since I got it a number of weeks ago it gives me power issues. When I let it go into sleep mode, it's almost impossible to get a woken up. This is a very annoying situation and makes working with the tablet almost impossible.
All updates and firmware are up to date.
Does anyone have a clue where this odd problem comes from? And better yet, how to solve it?
Thanks in advance
Fred

Hi, Fred - My V8P sometimes forgets how to wake up (turn on the screen) when the power button is pressed. It seems to happen less often now than when I got it, but plugging in the charger changes the power state and seems to jostle it so that it works.
If that fails, try a long press - twenty seconds or so and then a single press. This should reboot the tablet. I've never seen that fail.
I do think there's a loose bug floating around for this, but it's not being consistently repeatable makes troubleshooting (and telling Dell about it) hard.

I may have had the same problem or maybe it was just the same symptom but a different cause - battery was being rapidly drained in standby mode and could not power a wakeup. Even with charger plugged in, it would take a couple of minutes before the battery recovered enough to empower resumption. I think it went into hibernation at the same time as the battery was exhausted. The standby drain problem appeared to start with a Windows update and resolved itself a couple of days later.

I have the same issue on a venue 11 pro - every few days, it just stops waking up from connected standby & I have to press & hold the power button to wake it up. Very annoying, unfortunately I don't have a solution.
