Root access to Dell streak
I would like to have root access for two reasons
1.) I would like to delete some pre-installs, like ooVoo and
2.) I would like to use so apps, which needs the phone beeing rooted
WHAT to do?
I have been trying many "net-suggestions" they all did not work.
I think DELL should provide the customers FULL access to their device, no?
Best regards Hanel

All android phones comes this way,, its not Dell. The fun part of owning an android is that it is customizable after you receive it . What you need to do is root your phone . Go to XDA Developers forum and you can locate info on how to do so.

Thx very much
But I'd appreciate an answer from DELL -
and furthermore - all these tips and hints do not necesserally work.

Not sure why you are so frustrated at dell, but since you demand a response from dell, then wish you the best in your endeavors. Again, dell is not the problem. I enjoyed my pre rooted phone and when i got to root it, made it more enjoyable.
good luck.

THX again
I do not think, they (DELL) provided all they SHOULD.
They SHOULD give their customers FULL access to their device! (not even MICROSOFT is doing so.) And they SHOULD NOT force their customers to use apps, which they do NOT want - and they SHOULD not prevent them, from using usefull apps.
Are YOU an official DELL answerer? Or do you speak of your own?
I DEMAND from DELL full access to my costly paid STREAK.

Well, best of luck to your issue. Dell has provide all they need and should. They're not going to root it for you.

I think ignorance is bliss. Educate yourself prior to even considering doing something like rooting your device. Rooting opens people like you up to various other issues that Dell would then have to "fix" because your not educated.
Go Read and understand what "root" actually means and why manufacturers of ANY Android device do not deploy them that way.
READ. LEARN. EDUCATE.
FYI: If you did understand, this post would not exist.

Regretfully after less than 24 hours of ownership I am sending this device back to Dell. No demands, not angry, just disppointed. No USB Charge support for a mobile device with short battery life. OUCH. Also an issue with connecting to wifi teather devices... (HTC Eris w/root)
"root" on this device unfortunately wont help it.
I am gonna go curl up in a corner and cry for while ... as I have never had any issues with Dell devices and this one is really nice except for the HUGE battery life/USB charging issue.
Way to drop the ball Dell.

What device do you have? If a Streak 7, I think you need to relook at the battery icon in the upper rh corner and monitor your battery. It doesn't charge on USB and needs to be plugged into a wall outlet. I watched the battery actually go from 87% to 85%, 82% and down while plugged in via USB on both my PC and laptop. I rooted my phone and removed all the Verizon junk so I am familiar with removing and preserving battery life, but there will come a time I will not have the wall wart with me and REALLY need it charged. Seems to hold a good charge now, but I know as time goes on that will degrade and having the usb charge method will be critical. Dell support confirms that this is a known issue and a fix or update will not happen for this device.
Another thing I noticed ... (off topic but considering the thread op is not happy with this device why not share reasons for him to return it? lol)
I noticed the glass was placed on the unit the wrong way. Literally the viewing angle is MUCH MUCH better when the unit is upside down. No kidding. I think if they had put the glass on the other way (flip it 180) it would improve and does imrpove the viewing angle. I think this was a mistake in manufacturing the units in China. (perhaps UP and DOWN in China mean different things?) haha
If I were Dell, I would pull this Unit and start over before they lose market share for tablets. Honestly, very bad move to deploy this unit in the current condition. Perhaps there will be a revision later down the road that will fix all the quirks. By then the Honeycomb era will happen and MANY more tablets will be available.
Did you know the Dell Streak is actually an HP? True!

now thats' not a good experience! And it came direct from Dell with these defects? For a tablet/phone with the praises it has been receiving, you'd think dell would wrap their arms around this device and really market it up and give it the support it deserves and obviously need.
With so may processes and services running in the background, thats what eats the battery, but yep, if it was not a bad handset you have there, rooting it would have allowed moving off the items that are totally unecesary , thus saving batery.
Mine doesnt drain that fast at all, It holds a good charge for at last a day or two before needing to plug it, but when i am at my desk I keep mine plugged into my laptop while i work or sit near my desk, then use it unplugged when im away from the desk or computer .
Do you suppose Dell somehow sent you a refurb or a new one from a bad batch? Id at least have them send another one. i tell you, this tablet phone is very very nice and if they would send you another one id give it a try. You must have gotten a device thats been recycled or bad.

Lol, i was referringt to the Dell STreak 5 (sorry for the confusion). You serious? These are actually HP products? I never knew that!. Regarding glass installed upside down, are you speaking of the dell 5 or 7?. Yep, as far as battery, the 5 is pretty good. I do want a 7 now that i've been bitten. I know i can never go back to using a phone with smaller screen. I tried using my HTC Tilt2 with the stylus and simply cnt do that, cant even stand reading the small screen anymore. Im hooked.
