STREAK Unlock???

Hi,

Is $549.99 Unlock means a factory unlock like a sim free or just unlock for ATT contract?

If you are asking about the US Streak, it will be LOCKED to AT&T. The $549 price is without a contract, but still LOCKED.

I just now ordered my dell streak and this information that it is NOT unlocked really scares me. Can anyone from dell support, really tell me whether it will work with other service provider?

Since I'm already an AT&T customer I will be using the SIM from my 3G iPhone, since software update 4.01 it has been useless anyway!

I am disappointed and disgusted.  I just received my Streak yesterday, put in my existing T-Mobile SIM card and rudely found out that "unlocked" doesn't really mean unlocked!  Why would I pay $549 for an unlocked phone that I can only use on the AT&T network?

According to the specs the device supposedly supports GSM / EDGE 1900 / 1800 / 900 / 850 MHz so why not make it truly unlocked. Lastly CNET got it wrong - according to thier July 27th article "Dell Continues Streak Tease" - they stated that they contacted Dell and that "at least now we know the Streak doesn't support T-Mobile's 3G band, though it will support 3G from AT&T, as well as EDGE on either network. Dell also confirms that a "cherry red" version of the Streak will be available following the initial launch of the "carbon black" model" (http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-20011810-1.html).

Anyway - I'll be contacting Dell returns tomorrow to send it back.

No clue how the Streak is..  I don't have AT&T .. 

This is a message I received from DellCares on Twitter. ( They don't care, BTW. ) Wait for the REAL unlocked version.  It will come.  Problem is most of the people who work there don't know it .. I found 3 people that did .. tried to get an unlock code from them .. I had better luck getting a return authorization.  I didn't get that either but sometime within 48 hours someone is going to call me ..

Im sorry to hear this ...but i think im buying the real  unlocked one...n how was the streak other then its not unlocked?

I tried for 2 hours yesterday and 3 hours today to get an RMA number to return my Streak. Sometime this week Dell is coming out with a REAL unlocked version and I was going to buy it but being the support is so god awful I just want to return and forget it. ...  My last call ended with "someone will call you in a few days with an RMA number."  ARE YOU KIDDING ME ????  Don't buy this phone .. you will regret it .. If you have any problems with the phone you will NEVER EVER EVER get anyone to help you .. I am just boxing my Streak up and putting it in the mail and calling my credit card to deny the charge .. Can't  get an RMA Number ... What if it was broken and I didn't have another phone ?? I would have to wait DAYS just to get a number ? If you didn't buy one .. be glad ... that's all I can say. 

BTW .. the link I used to buy my Streak did NOT say the phone was locked like the new link that is up now.  My link says get a discount by going with a 2 year contract .. PERIOD ... I started with that and when I couldn't find anyone to care I decided to return the stupid thing ..  I feel relieved knowing the beast will be gone tomorrow.

I am in the same boat...paid the extra money as advertised for an UNLOCKED unit, and now find it is STILL locked to ATT.

I hope either ATT or DELL will help us and at least get the unlock code for those of us who feel mislead. It seems it would be easier for everyone than returning the current unit and exchanging it for the REALLY UNLOCKED, UNLOCKED model alledgedly coming out next week?

Hope Dell streak support is watching this forum. I too ordered streak considering that it is UNLOCKED to be used with other carriers, but now hearing the news that UNLOCKED version will be released soon. Can someone from dell support reply us whether we will have any replacement for the one we already received or will we be getting the unlocked code?

I received my RMA code yesterday.  I have 10 days to use it. Also, there was no restocking fee incurred.  I'll give it a couple days to see if Dell will be responsive to the "unlock" issue, otherwise I'll probably send it back and move onto the Sony Ericson or something else.  I'm really dissappointed in Dell.

I am 99.9999% sure I found the person in the right department who will unlock our phones. She took all my info said she mails it to someone else who will mail her back with the unlock code.

Sound right doesn't it ? It's been 30 minutes. She said it could be an hour or so depending on the person who will provide the code, but she sounds like the real deal !! I will come back here about 6pm eastern time, I have an hour commute home, and if she could do what she says she can do I will give you her name and phone number ..

This is the first hope I have had. When I called her I said, before I return my Streak and maybe buy an unlocked one on eBay, is there anything you can do to solve my 'locked to AT&T problem? Before I could get the last words out of my mouth she jumped right in and said, "don't send it back .. I can get you an unlock code."

I said "Alright if I share you with the rest of the disappointed Dell Streak buyers" and she said 'YES .. this is no secret.' I would post the number right now but I want to make sure she can do what she says she can and I don't want her to get too busy to call me !!

I too have made quite a few phone calls yesterday.  I finally reached a lady who sounded like she knew all about this lock/unlock problem and she also understands that this problem needs to be addressed quickly.

It was a brief conversation, but I was told to keep calling them back the next few days and they will have a solution.

I like the form factor of the streak, but it is aboslutely useless if I cannot travel internationally with it.  Hopefully Dell will have some unlocking solution before I leave the US again or I will just have to return it...
