Venue 11 Pro Wireless 1538 WiFi/BT Driver Issue

Back about a week ago, my tablet was unable to find any wifi routers to connect to. I did not turn wireless off, and my phone was able to pick up wireless signals. I googled my problem and found out that the Venue 8 Pro had a similar problem where Windows updates messed up any attempts to connect to wifi for whatever reason, but was unable to find any help for my Venue 11 Pro. I ended up uninstalling all Windows updates and restarting my computer just in case -- didn't work. I deleted the driver using the Device Manager, restarted, then had the Device Manager reinstall the driver -- didn't work. At this point, I downloaded the driver install file from Dell's website and did a complete uninstall of my existing wireless driver, then I re-installed it with the .exe provided by Dell. That worked, and I thought my problem was just an anomaly and that it was solved for good. I redownloaded the Windows updates and there was no issue.

Today during one of my classes, I opened my tablet (it's attached to the mobile keyboard) and went to check my emails. Strangely, my internet was kaput. It wouldn't find any access points, just like last time. My phone had no trouble, however. I reinstalled the driver using the solution above and it works fine now. But now I wonder why my driver keeps failing. Is it fetching an update and the update somehow corrupts my driver? I don't know, but it's annoying. I cannot reproduce this behaviour as I have no idea what would cause it to do this in the first place.

Has this issue been reported before? Is there a fix? I don't want to keep on reinstalling the driver, as that's not really a "fix", but more a workaround until the next time it happens.

Thanks.

I keep trying, but the patch doesn't do anything.  There is a brief command box, then nothing.  It is a brand new venue 8 pro that can now do nothing other than tell me the time without wifi.  Please help.

Sorry to hear that this continues to be an issue.

With the one unit (Venue 11 pro) that I bought, this was a big issue.  My sense was that there was an issue with the underlying Intel wifi device.  Separate from Dell, I was finding substantial conversations on Intel forums related to that specific wifi card, where the same issue was being discussed, and Intel was acknowledging the problem.

That said, the solution for me ended up being some random replacement of wifi and nic drivers while working with Dell support.  The tech was as excited and surprised as me to see it work.  I want to say that I had already replaced the same driver several times, perhaps with a different version... or perhaps we just got lucky the one time, though it's remained fixed since July.  My issue was cleared under Dell ProSupport Service Request 896378065 (serial 3LBTR02).

It would be nice to hear that this issue is clearly solved.  I'm getting close to a point where I need to decide whether to standardize on Venue or MS Surface for the company.  I really like Dell support WAY better than MS, having had to deal with both.  And Dell has a better line of offerings and connection options.  Surface does have the kickstand which I like a lot, but the Venue snap on keyboard helps that issue (to some degree).  If it wasn't for this wi-fi issue, I'd likely lean Venue, but if this is still going on, forget it.  I don't have the time to battle with the issue on every unit I buy.  (as if someone that matters in Dell is actually reading this :)

Hi,

A different problem here related to the WiFi adapter.

I installed yesterday the newest update (WiFi update) from the dell.com/support homepage for Dell Venue 11 pro 7130 and after that there is no more internet connection at all.

When troubleshooting the internet connection I see the message that the network adapter driver is not installed. I have tried to install previous WiFI drivers, which I managed to download from my phone, but it did not work.

After reading through the forums and having tried to uninstall  KB drivers, I have not found the particular ones that have been described here:

answers.microsoft.com/.../bc8a1426-fdb8-466d-b074-c80a06e70d76;rtAction=1386876954382

I have tried to make a system restore but this option apparently does not work and gives an error message all time ( there is an antivirus software turned on). I have uninstalled antivirus program and stopped windows defender - did not help at all.

If anyone knows how to fix this issue - please help!

Best

Regards

Georgi

If you have a tablet with specifically the Dell DW1538 Wireless Adaptor and have problems where it will not reconnect to a known wireless network after resuming from standby, please try the following three steps:

1. USB Power settings update - http://dell.to/1BBdhQE

2. Dell Wireless 1538 Wi-Fi/BT Driver 3.7.2.59 - http://dell.to/1xKWI4k

3. Uninstall both of the following Windows updates: KB 2887595 and KB 2903939

When you run Windows Update after this, the updates will now automatically be installed in the proper order.

If you have this specific hardware and the three steps have been applied but have no resolved the issue, please advise what symptoms are still occuring and we may contact you for additional information.

My wife's new Dell Venue 11 Pro also has the problem of Wi-Fi limited access. All my Dell and Window updates are current. I have looked through several web hits, including this one, to try and find a fix. I have narrowed the problem to when the tablet "Sleeps."  If the tablet Sleeps, after a period of time, Wi-Fi shows limited access when the tablet comes back on. If I do a full power off, then power it back on. Wi-Fi is working correctly.

I changed the power off button to power off, rather than Sleep. Tested the change and Wi-Fi works ok. I tested putting the tablet to Sleep. Tested it and the Wi-Fi access, when I brought the tablet back up, Wi-Fi was limited. Any fixes for this, short off never using the Sleep function?

Thanks.

What I found for a work around is to not use the Sleep Power Option. When my Venue 11 goes to sleep, Wi-Fi may be limited when I wake up the tablet. I can do a full power off, then power the tablet back up. Wi-Fi works fine then. I have changed the power button and close lid now to "Power Off," rather then the Sleep Option. So far, so good. Maybe Dell and MS can fix this.

With connected standby, the wireless should always be connected. However, there are so many factors with wireless issues that they can be a challenge to resolve. Which access points are you using? Can you run an energy report?

support.microsoft.com/.../976034

Just type powercfg energy at the elevated command prompt and see what errors there are. sometimes there is a power setting or driver that needs updating.

Access point is a Linksys EA4500. I ran the energy report. Shows 2 errors, 3 warnings and 21 informational. I cannot open up the report itself. I get This page can't be displayed. I located the file and tried to open it. No luck. Suggestions? Thanks.

The device not Entering Selective Suspend (8086&DEV_9CB1) is the Intel 9 Series Chipset USB Host Controller.

See if you can update the Chipset:
www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails

and the wireless driver
www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails

Then check the wireless driver properties in Windows device manager. There should be a power management tab. Make sure the box is checked to allow power savings. May help and it would be a good place to start.

Ran the two updates. Both ran successfully. My tablet does not have the power management tab. I checked on that and found it was eliminated to prevent the ability to disable the power savings. Tested the Sleep/Wi-Fi limited problem several times. On Sleep mode, after a bit Wi-Fi stills go to limited.

What has changed is the ability to turn Wi-Fi Off/ON when the limited problem occurs. Before these changes, I had to power the tablet off to recover. Now, after the limited problem shows, I can use Charms bar to turn Wi-Fi off, wait awhile, then turn Wi-Fi on, Wi-Fi will connect as it should.

Suggestions? Thanks, again, for your help.

anyone found a solution? i'm experiencing the same issue on my venue

August 27th, 2015 08:00

I have the dell venue 11 pro 5000 series and use it with the docking station. Both my ethernet on the docking station and wireless driver only work intermittently.  The wireless adapter continually malfunctions and to remedy this I reinstall the wireless driver but its happening more frequently.  The ethernet connection on the docking station just stops working and I can get it back by restarting the tablet but I have had to do this about every hour.

What is the best way to fix can you send me a patch?

I had a similar problem with my 8 pro. I fixed the wireless adapter with these steps.

1. Download and save the newest wireless driver

2. In Device Manager, uninstall and delete driver software for the wireless adapter.

3. Delete “ar6knwf81.sys” from C:\Windows\System32\Drivers.

4. Go to Settings> Update and Recovery> Recovery > Advanced Startup> Restart now

5. Open Troubleshoot and Advanced Options.

6. Open Command Prompt and type "sfc /scannow”. Shutdown the tablet when it's finished.

7. Boot up the tablet and run the wireless driver setup in Compatibility Mode for Windows 8.

8. Connect to your WI-FI.

Let me know if it fixed your problem.

Nope - tried jare-hecs solution but still having the same problem on mine. Sometimes disabling/enabling in device manager is enough, sometimes a restart is required. The connection can cut off in the middle of working with something, so it is likely that some other part of the tablet is affecting the issue.
