Venue 7140 Shuts Down When Pro Keyboard is Attached

This problem just started with my 7140.  When I attach the pro keyboard (the one with the battery), within a few seconds the tablet shuts off.  Not a graceful shutdown, it just stops.  It will not power back on until I remove the keyboard.  I actually have two of the pro keyboards and it does the same thing with either of them.

If I have the power cable attached and then attach the keyboard it does stay on and work fine.  As soon as I remove the power cable it again shuts off.  There is nothing in the Event Viewer when this is happening.  The battery in the keyboard does have a full charge.

I entered the diagnostic screen with the keyboard and power cord attached.  It shows both batteries as being present and charged and no errors.  One odd thing is that it says the power adapter is not attached even though it is.

Please help - I need this tablet for my daily work.

Was there a solution?  Mine is doing that as well.  I bought another keyboard/battery and it does that as well.  If it's plugged in, then it will usually stay on.  It started after updates, but I have yet to determine which.  I tried rolling back, even with BIOS.   No luck.

Same problem here and also after updating. I have bought a second keyboard and happened the same. Now I have two useless keyboards. Dell, I would like a solution or at least an explanation.

Hello,

I have the same issue as you :( It started out this month. It only works when you disconnect keyboard battery :/

Maybe battery is broken, but I don't want to spend money to check It.

I don't think that DELL is going to fix this.

For now If you have this issue, dissemble your keyboard and unplug the battery.

Regards,

MK

See https://www.dell.com/community/Tablets-Mobile-Devices/Dell-Venue-11-keyboard-turns-off-the-tablet/td-p/4398113/page/8, so page 8 of that "Dell Venue 11 keyboard turns off the tablet??" thread.

What definitely works is to open the keyboard and unplug the keyboard battery.

It seems even if the keyboard or keyboard battery is new, some update to the Venue's or keyboard dock's firmware (or some magic of sun eruption or nano probes) must have caused that the Venue does not like the keyboard dock's battery anymore... Believe me, I tried a lot of scenarios: Different new keyboard docks, new keyboard battery, polishing the dock's and Venue's pins... Other people tried up-/downgrades to the Venue's or dock's firmwares...

I will maybe one day try out the sandpaper and the sticker solution from the above thread...

Just checked mine - seems that dock connecter is damaged - pins on the left should be connected directly to the one of the docking pins - in my case there's no continuity neither on mb or dock side of the ribbon but there is continuity on connector socket at dock itself.

In my case it should be possible to trim ribbon by amount of burned traces (~2-3 mm) which i'll check later
