Venue 8 Pro touch screen unresponsive after Windows 10 installation

I upgraded to Windows 10 on my Venue 8 Pro tablet after receiving the Get Windows 10 icon on Sept. 11. The download and installation completed successfully and at the initial Windows screen showed "Hi there, welcome back", my photo and Microsoft Outlook user name at the top, the restart icon with "I'm not username" at the bottom left, and a "Next" button at the bottom right.  However I was not able to click the Next button to proceed because the touch screen would not respond to touch by finger or the stylus pen, or to the bluetooth keyboard.  I then did a hard shutdown (power key down 6 seconds). I am unable to run any Dell diagnostic tests because of the frozen screen, but I have rebooted into ePSA diagnostics (power on key  then immediate volume up key) and run the diagnostics several times showing all test results green.  I have also run the Aptio Setup utility (power key and then immediate volume down key) but found no safe mode boot option.  I also can find no other way to access the Windows 8/10 Recovery screen without use of my touch screen.  Many users with laptop and desktop computers have experienced this Windows 10 lockup but their screen interfaces, either mouse or keyboard, were working and the Next button was clickable, but unresponsive.  However they found that after waiting a period of 10-15 minutes, the Windows 10 setup process continued and they were able to finish successfully.  I believe that Windows 10 has installed correctly on my tablet, but I cannot get any response at all from the touchscreen to continue the setup.  Any solutions would be appreciated.

I have a venue 8 5830 and I did get it to continue after many restarts. (holding the power button for 10 seconds, release it and press again for about 2 seconds. the screens do eventually come up. however after getting that done I experience a black screen that is unresponsive. the screen just goes dead even if you give it periodic attention. I am in the middle of dealing with that now and I think the restart process will get me active again - not sure. I have deleted my back up to go back to 8.1 which I don't want to do anyway because I like windows 10 much better on my desk top (although I did have a severe problem with office365/excel which I have to give credit to msn because the tech worked with me for about an hour or more to get it fixed. my other office365 stuff worked but excel had a problem.

Can you connect a cabled keyboard and mouse, via a USB OTG cable and USB hub attached to that, and proceed that way?

I have read that reversion to 8.1 doesn't work either, although I have read so many attempted fixes that I can't remember where I read that.  I have thought of a USB keyboard to try to get the screen to respond but I haven't found any that are compatible, and it would require a driver anyway, which I would not be able to load.

I had looked for a USB keyboard to try that, but I can't find any that are compatible with the Venue 8 Pro.  It would probably also require a driver but since my system is disabled there is no way I could upload it.  However I think this solution would work if there is a way to interface a hardware keyboard. It appears that all that is wrong is that I can't tell Windows to continue with setup,so I don't yet want to try anything more drastic, which could leave me worse off.  Any more suggestions for interfacing a keyboard would be appreciated.  Thanks.

I would think that just about any USB keyboard should be compatible.  And I'm not aware of any special driver needs--whatever is needed seems to be built into the OS.  People use USB keyboards with an installing OS all the time.

Hi Mikerman,

Thanks for your USB keyboard suggestion, which allowed me to interface with the screen and complete the Windows 10 setup normally.  At least Windows 10 appears to be functioning, although the problem with the unresponsive touch screen remains.  It appears that the bluetooth keyboard driver is missing, and in Windows the screen still does not respond to touch with finger or stylus.  However in the boot diagnostic screens, the stylus and touch screen still both work.  At least I can get into Windows 10 now to troubleshoot the issue further.

Thanks for the update and glad that you're partway there!

If you haven't yet done it, you might try going to the Dell product support page for the tablet and installing the pertinent driver/software updates.  Hopefully, one will cover the touchscreen issue and update the needed driver(s).

What works for me.

1. After installing windows 10, use a multi-type C USB connector to plugin your mouse and keyboard to the Dell Venue 8.

2. Go to the Dell drivers download updates and get the BIOS updated.

3. From the list of drivers, Download and Update the following drivers:

- Dell Client Management Pack Application v6.3
- Update Windows Universal
- Dell/Alienware Digital Delivery
- Intel chipset driver.

4. Restart your Venue 8 device and everything should be set. Perfectly works.

@seun Hi there I'm having this issue with a fresh install of windows 8.1 which is what my tablet had on it to start. Any ideas on how to fix the same problem but with windows 8.1?
