Venue 8 USB Port Functionality
Before I bought my Venue 8 I engaged in Online chats with several customer service reps and asked whether the usb charging port could be used for data transfer or only for charging. One said only charging and one said it could be used to connect to flash drives, computers and TV's. Not finding anything in the manual or online about connecting to flash drives and TV's I talked to yet another rep today and asked the same question. At first, he said its only function was charging. But when I pointed out the manual discusses connecting to computers, he allowed that this was probably possible, but flash drives and TV's could not be accessed via the usb port. Does anyone know the truth about the capability of the usb port? Anyone tried connecting to any devices via usb? If so, what cables did you use?

I have an android application installed in dell. N connected a usb card reader using OTG cable.The Card reader is working properly but after connecting the Dell Venue 7 tablet"s sensitivity became low. And the application is also getting slow. Please someone tell me the solution for this.

I've had this happen to me before. It sounds like your HD needs more external power than is available from the Venue.
I would suggest one of two courses of action. The first is to put an externally powered USB hub in between the drive and the Venue, allowing for more power to not only the drive, but to other external USB devices as well. In addition, it opens up a whole bunch of available USB ports.
The second suggestion is to just plug the drive into an appropriately sized AC/DC power adapter and into a wall AC outlet.

@b mcnurlan. Good answer excrpt this the android section not venue pro (windows) also he said he had an otg adaptor. My vote goes with using a powered usb hub.

Short answer #1: first things first, you need an USB OTG cable.
For more info about what a USB "On The Go (OTG)" cable is, go to the following link:

You can buy USB OTG cable at any of several websites searching for "USB OTG cable".
Short answer #2: As to the question of how to connect the Venue 8 Pro to your TV, you need to get a WiDi adapter for your TV. The Venue 8 Pro already had WiDi capability built into it. I use the and suggest you research the Netgear Push2TV WiDi adapter.
WiDi is a wireless standard that is used to connect a computing device that supports the standard to a TV or TV adapter (the Netgear Push2TV in this case) that also supports the WiDi standard. Bottom line, no video cable is needed to establish a video link between your computing device and the TV.
A couple of things to be aware of. The first is, upon receipt of the PTV device, update the firmware to the latest version. The firmware is available on the Netgear website. I've also posted update instructions here on the Dell website.
The second thing to be aware of is that you will likely need to update your Venue 8 Pro BIOS and the Intel software associated with WiDi. Those BIOS updates, drivers and software updates are all available on the Dell support website for the Venue 8 Pro.
I'm typing this reply to you on my Venue 8 Pro. It is connected to my TV using the Netgear Push2TV adapter and there is no cable connecting the tablet to the TV.
