I received mine today and had th same qustion. The quick start manual leaves out a step.
The docking station is shipped in the locked position as if the tablet is attached and closed. The quick start manual shows inserting the tablet with the hinge unlocked and in the upright position. This is not how the shipped it. To unlock the hindge lay the tablet facedown on the keyboard and push it straight back to lock it in place you can then open it up as it will be unlocked.
I recently purchased the same product and went through the same problem. All you have to do is pull it out with you hands. I know if feels as though your going to break it, but I assure you it wont. as soon as you can get it out just a little bit dock your XPS in and all should be fine. Hope this was helpful and wish you the best.
