You are not able to send a test message through syslog. Here are a couple of links to a couple of kb’s. The first one is to EMC Unity: Alert Messages, ID List and Call home, & the second link is to How to send Security Audit log messages to syslog server.
just a quick update regarding this. Each filesystem has capacity alarm thresholds. These can be exercised on a test filesystem to trigger a snmp event which will go to your syslog server if configured.
