The write cache on Unity also is battery backed.  The difference between VNX vaulting and Unity vaulting is the location where the data is vaulted to (system drives on VNX, internal M2 SSD on Unity).  Both still need the battery to do the vaulting process in the event of a catastrophic power failure.

    i Vivek,

Why would you want to do such a thing?

Removing something critical like this can result in many major issues

Hi Andre, yes, why we would do that. rationale is, battery does need repalcement every 2-3 years and we have a principle of having parts lifecycle for atleast 5-7 years. If vaulting is the only requirement battery is supporting on unity and not like VNX where write cache was also battery backed, can we not have battery at all ? Cheers, Vivek

Yes, not having a battery is not an option at all.

I'm marking this thread as finalized if that's ok?
