is Hardware support mandatory?

I hope you will be fine in these COVID-19 days

as I understand, on emc storage buying process, software Support (for example M-PSM-SW-012) is mandatory.

what about hardware support? is it mandatory? (for example M-PSM-HW-012)

can I order a storage with software support, but without hardware support?
