Present LUN to Host as Read Only.

Question

Hi,

I appreciate it has been asked previously (https://www.dell.com/community/Unity/Unity-Read-Only-LUN/m-p/7175219) but has there been any change in the intervening releases of Unity OE v5.x to allow a LUN to be presented to a host as Read Only?

I need to present VMware VMFS datastores to Windows Servers/Veeam Proxies for direct SAN backup and I am very twitchy about presenting them as R/W, incase they get accidently re-signatured/formatted.

Presenting LUNs as R/O has been a standard feature in most other array (big & small) I have worked with for the past 20 years, so I am a little disheartened that such a capable array as the Unity might still be lacking this feature.

Unfortunately, that doesn't solve my problem. I need to present the primary LUN to Veeam, so it can take a snapshot and then mount that snapshot for backup.

The inability to present a primary LUN as RO for a given host is a real shortcoming of the Unity. It leaves me with the risk of a Windows Server Admin resignaturing and/or formatting my VMFS LUN's.
