I dont think it is supported to change the CPU/Memory beyond whats documented

Changing CPU and memory settings on the VM will cause it not to boot up. This is not supported.
Since you mentioned iSCSI and slowness, I would recommend you check delayed ack. Have a look at KB 486506 (step c.)

Hi,
you cannot do it, as said before.
Also one requirement for UnityVSA is ESXi 5.5 or 6...
Response time much much depends on your underlying hardware though...
