UnityVSA Community Edition - Users and groups on standalone NAS server
Hello all,
after now being able to manage local users on the standalone NAS server on an UnityVSA (see https://community.emc.com/thread/233322) I found out that I can't assign users to groups. When I want to add a new local user to an existing local group, i. e. Administrators, I get a login dialogue. After putting in the credentials of the administrator account the group can't be found. In the advanced search dialogue I get the error message that it isn't possible to open a second connection with the same credentials. I can also escape from the login dialogue. Then the advanced search dialogue shows the message that the acces is denied. These error messages are only viewable when changing the search parameters to groups or users.
I don't want to work with local accounts for the file access rights. I want to use local groups to manage the access rights without the long process of enumerating all the files and folders after every change of the access rights.
I'm using the Computer Management console of a Windows 10 Professional client to manage the NAS server on the UnityVSA Community Edition. I think there's an issue with the security context again when assigning local users to local groups. Do you have an idea how to solve this?
Thank you.

Hello all,
now I tried the management of users and groups on the NAS server of the UnityVSA with an old XP Professional machine which is used for testing purposes only. After mounting the C$ share as administrator and starting the Computer Management MMC I was able to manage local users, local groups and I was able to add local users to the local groups. For adding local users to local groups I had to put in the administrator credentials once again for each assigning. This isn't very comfortable but it's working.
So I was right with an issue when administrating the NAS server with a Windows 10 machine.
It would be very nice, if EMC is adding the user and group management of standalone NAS servers into the web UI of unity to improve the usability.
Or does anyone else have an idea how to improve it?
Thank you.

thanks for the feedback.
I have to admit that I never tried with Win10 - it does work fine with Win7
It would help if you as a customer would file a product enhancement request here

I opened a product enhancement request and hopefully it will be implemented in one of the next releases.
