Hi Ura,

Why did the name change to CoprHD from ViPR Controller?

We wanted to make sure there would be no confusion between the commercial product (ViPR) and the open source version (CoprHD).

How will developers get approval to contribute to CoprHD?

Also, we'll be following an approval process like the one used in other open source projects where we have contributors and committers. The committers are the ones that can approve pull request so that the code goes into CoprHD.

We'll explain everything in detail in the wiki and have a lot more detail on how things work.  Our intention is to follow a well established and accepted contribution model and governance.

At the beginning, contributors can go to our google groups and introduce themselves to the community. For example, they could show their work based on the public GitHub repository as part of their introduction. They'll have to go over the governance information in the wiki and make sure they agree to the rules.

Hi Ura,

How can anyone contribute to the open source development community?

And along the same lines...

will all of ViPR Controller’s source code be available in the open source community?

There are many ways to contribute to CoprHD. You can fix bugs, implement a feature, write or fix documentation, etc.

The source code will be available around June. Check out the developers starting guide, we'll be updating it as we go with more details on the contribution process.

Thanks!

Almost all of it - the storage automation and control capabilities will all be available. There are a few things that will be taken out. These are things that either don't make sense in the context of an open source project, or can not be made public because we don't own them.

Will the ViPR Controller documentation also be available in the open source community?

Absolutely!

In the beginning of the project, CoprHD user documentation will basically be a pointer to EMC ViPR documentation. Eventually, CoprHD will have it's own set of documentation, most of which will be leveraged in the creation of ViPR documentation.

Documentation supporting development will be right on the wiki so we can also collaborate there.

How will EMC determine what code they want to package as ViPR Controller?

EMC will choose what code to package into ViPR Controller based on EMC business needs (e.g. call home).
