Monitor and Alerts for VIPR C Linux VMs: VIPR C 3.6.1.4
Hi VIPR C:
We have deployed a 5 VM Vipr Controller vAPP and want to use our internal monitoring tool - which will send an e-mail to us when the host is unreachable.
In order to do this, the Monitor Account 12345 has to be added to each VIPR C Linux VM.
Is this advisable? I do not want to adulterate the LINUX OS.
Is there another way to be alerted that any of the 5 VM's is down? We also have VIPR SRM, but have not implemented the VIPR C Solution Pack for SRM yet.
Thank you

You can't make changes to the ViPR/C linux side of the house because they don't persist reboots. I would suggest using a vmware tool or other enterprise tool that monitors ip's and or vm status.

From the "System->Health" section of the on-line help for vipr-c, we see that:
*****
An alert notification is also sent via email to the System Administrator if a node is down for more than one day.
*****
Maybe you can monitor that, or have the email forwarded to someone who can follow up if a node goes down.
