scaleout using 1 VM vApp

hello

Does anyone know if it is possible to scaleout an existing SRM depoyment created using binary install on RHEL using the 1 VM vApp.

The scaleout doc has a section for deployment outside a virtual appliance but a pre-requisite is for a 4 VM vApp.

so I'm unclear as to if any vApp / binary mixed install combination is supported

A mixed install of vApp and binary is definitely supported, although usually it starts with a vApp install which people add one or more non-vApp nodes into (for example, to add a Windows-based collector node to an existing vApp system).

Scale-out is easier if you start with a 4-VM vApp; since we configure the systems in vApp deploys with specific defaults we can make many assumptions about where services live, and so on.  But, this document explains how to mimic a 4-VM setup with a binary install: ViPR SRM 3.6 - Using the Binary Installer to Scaleout ViPR SRM

I know that's not exactly what you're looking for but it may have some useful information.  I've also seen a document which is in use by EMC field personnel for configuring an arbitrarily complex SRM instance using binary installs, but I don't think it's a customer-facing document at this time.
