2950 III - Max Memory and Memory Config
We've got a few 2950 III servers in a VMWare ESX cluster (ESX 3.5). When we ordered the servers (July 2008), it was stated that the maximum amount of memory was 32GB. Now, it says that the max memory for the 2950 III is 64GB. We're assuming this is because of the availability of 8GB memory modules, but we want to be sure about this. Also, will ESX 3.5 on these servers support more than 32GB of memory??
I'm also wondering about adding memory to these boxes. We're assuming that memory should be added in pairs for dual-channel performance. Is this correct?
Thanks in advance!

ESX 3.5 actually supports 256GB per host. Check the support matrix on VMware's site to see the 2950 III listed with 64GB support - http://tinyurl.com/8kc4cg - and that's just because that is all it can hold right now - come back when we have the 32GB dimms :-)
And yes, put them in pairs. And since you'll have some downtime be sure to update all the bios and firmware while you are at it.
