PERC controller does not export the SCSI serial

Here's a stumper for anyone that can take a stab at it.
Any ideas?

What I have found is that the PERC controller does not export the SCSI serial number so RDM's are not available. Is this still true with the PERC 6i or can it export the SCSI serial number?

Hello Brian,

sry 4 late answering, found your request and the first question is if your request is still unsolved and actual ? the next one, if still active, does the user configured the datastore on local drives ? does the user attached a md 1120 or md 1000 (due to perc) ? if the user configured a datastore on server on a logical volume and and attached a new drive to that perc or uses a "clear one" and would like to attach it to a virtual machine for RDM, the thing to remind ist that the harddrive works as a raid 0 (the perc does not recognize a single drive correctly if no raid signature is written on drive), he can perofrm it via raid controller bios, choose 1 drive, then crate a raid 0 on it , the drive needs to formatted with supported file system for virtual machine (i.e. NTFS for windows, EXT 3 or 4 linux and so on ....) , then the user can map the drive as raw one, but he needs to be careful in vi client settings, the new drive will also recognized by hdd management og ESX and he will try to format it with VMFS, but these stepas are assuinmgs form my paret, can you pass a little bit more infos please ? the server hdd konfig, whre the datastore is located and what kind of hdd the user will attach and provide raw device mapping ? Presently I`m stabbing a litte bit *g

Much greetings from Germany

Cheers

Marcus
