Version of OPENMANAGE with ESX 3.5 update 3 ?

Greeting Everyone,
I installed several PE2950III with ESX 3.5 update 3 and I want to install OPENMANAGE agent on them.
Looking the Support Documents on the DELL site I saw that ESX 3.5u3 is not mentioned (the latest version is ESX 3.5u2 supported with OM5.3 and OM5.4).
My question is: which version of OM is supported on ESX 3.5u3 ?
Thank you for any help you may provide.

Docs are being updated. Version 5.5 is the latest version of OpenManage and what you will need for U3.

Hope that helps. Use support.dell.com to drill down and download for the 2950III, just pick RH Linux for the OS.

I installed OM5.5 on ESX3.5U3 but the secure web browser is not launching. Did the port change? Or is there a different command to launch it?

I was looking for a way to update the BIOS, PERC, HBA and backplane firmware and I thought that the OM5.5 had a way of doing it. How can I update the firmware in 3 Dell PE6850 running ESX 3.5U3?

See page 23 of the PDF I linked to above. You have to use the DUPs, (Dell Update Packages) ... you could also take a look at this script that I wrote, might be of use :

Thanks for your reply! Do you already know when the new docs will be available?

I updated the firmware using the DUP but now, I'm trying to update the drives and I just read on this doc:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/software/eslvmwre/Systems_Mngmnt/ESX_OM/PDF/OM.pdf.pdf
that the Server Update Utlity is not supported on ESX (page 11-top). How do I upgrade the drivers for these Dell 6850 serves running ESX 3.5 U3?
Is that still the case?

Drives or drivers ? .... I'll assume drives since that was the first term you used.

Drive updates have to be performed outside of the OS, so that means booting media outside ESX.

The Systems Build and Update Utility (SBUU) is bootable media, so it doesn't matter what OS is installed on the server. Make sense ?

Sorry... ADHD typing... I meant drivers... Like the HBA, PERC and NIC drivers... I completed the update of firmware with the bootable CD, but I want to upgrade the drivers now and it is stated on page 11 of the above linked doc that "SUU is not supported on ESX"... Is there a way to update drivers on ESX3.5 U3?

The drivers for ESX are tightly intergrated with the kernel. The Dell Virtualization Engineering Team works with VMware to provide all the driver support that is needed and they ship it with the updates. When you install the updates from VMware for ESX, you have the latest drivers. There is nothing to download from support.dell.com with respect to ESX drivers.

That's what I thought... Took a lot of reading to figure that one out.
Scott, much appreciate your help.
Thanks and best regards.

Greetings,

I've installed OM5.5 on ESX3.5u3 on a group of 2950s. I can access them via the OMSA console with no problem but they're not showing up anywhere in ITA, which is running on a 2950 that runs Win2k3. I've tried to force discovery using specific IP address, IP range (subnet) and DNS FQDN - all with no joy.

I can browse the ESX hosts with a MIB browser.

I must be missing something obvious, but I've no ideas at this point.

thanks.

Yes. Tha't what I used for the installation guide. In the "known issues" table on page 38, it discusses a similar problem, but says it is only applicable to "ESX3.0.1 or Older versions."
