Foglight service hangs

I upgraded to 6.6.2 on Monday (8/20/2012) and the Foglight server service appears to hang. vCenter connection still appers to be there, but no data is coming through and CPU, NETWORK and DISK IO meters are greyed out. When I restart the service every thing comes back normal. Any ideas on why this is happening?

Should have said that this occurs about every 8 hours or so.

What version did you upgrade from?

Also, did you upgrade your FGLAMs and VMWare Agents?

One more thing, when you configure new VMWARE performance agent, you will need use same EXACT name you had for old agent. Otherwise it will create duplicate virtual enter.

Hi Hal,

Running old standalone VMware agent is not supported by vFoglight 6.6.2. You need uninstall it and use FGLAM based VMWARE performance agent.

Check this solution out
https://support.quest.com/SolutionDetail.aspx?id=SOL89787&category=Solutions&SKB=1&product=vFoglight

This solution is not same as yours but it covered all the steps you need.

If you still have trouble, please feel free to open support case.

FGLAM is verison 5.6.2.4 and the Cartridge version for VMware is 5.6.4; what versions should they be?

VMWare Performance Agent should be 5.6.4

FGLAM should be 5.6.2.4

Hello Hal,

The versions are latest. Are you still running the legacy VMware agent or the new FglAM based agent ( as Lee pointed out)?

Probabaly open a Support case at this time so we can take a look into your environment.

Sincerely

Thanks, I will take your suggestions and if deactivating/activating the agent works find. If not I will open a support case.

Well, you appear to be on the current versions of the agent and the FGLAM, which I did not see coming.

It could be any number of configuration issues, or something as simple and unexpected as an issue with your Virtual Centers and how well they are performing.

Also, the next time data collection stops, instead of re-starting the FMS, just deactivate and re-activate the agent, see if that works.  Would go a long way towards finding where the real issue is.

I suspect the fastest way to resolve this is to open a support case.
