Having an issue with a vmware agent and metrics
Environment is 6.6.2. I have a vmware agent that is reporting no metrics. I reinstalled it and it says the same thing. But the " agent with agents"window says it's collecting.
I don't beleive it is collecting either.

Hi, Al,
Hover your mouse over the alerts section of the VMware Environment Administration screen, as follows, to see the last update times for each data collection type for the agents:

Thanks John, I did as you mentioned and it appears that the agent is collecting. Any reason why it would rfeflect a N/A status? Thanks for your help,,al

Thanks Again, glad to see they are collecting data. Question, will the metric history change it's percentage as the vmagent collects data?

Hello Al,
Couple of things to be aware of about Historical Data (Metric History) collection:
- This setting applies ony to the vCenter that was never monitored before meaning if the vCenter in your case was monitored before (say by the old VMware agent) then the setting does not apply. Our agent starts collecting data from a VC from the time the agent it is created. This setting allows to collect additional data from past 30 days (from the day the agent was created first time). This Historical data is mainly used for trending calculations in Capacity Management. So unless you need that I would suggest not to worry about it if all of the collections are working okay (which they are in your case based upon the screenprint you have attached)
- For Historical data to be collected, you need to have that setting enabled (no 0 value) in VMware Pefromance Agent properties under Data Collection scheduler and yes it will take time to collect this data depending upon size of your virtual environment
Note: We came across couple of cases where Enabling Historical data collection have caused vcenter service to crash. So unless absolutely required, it is recommended to leave it disabled.
Hope this helps.
Sincerely
agranell

Just a note, found this to be very helpful as well. One of our environments has over 2100 vm's off it.
