Pull Data from vFoglight SQL Database for Pivot Table/CUBE?

Our CIO is asking for hourly data so that he can create a historical record of our Virtual Environment using the data collected from vFoglight to present to the BODs so they can see ho we are utulizing the new environement they allowed us to purchase. I created a report for him but he doesn't want to have to copy and paste the data into an excel file every hour that is runs.

It looks like this:

dnsName Name Utilization (%)
ESXi Server 1 Memory 42
ESXi Server 2 Memory 37

So is there a way to allow Excel to connect to the SQL Server and pull this data so he can organize it himself? Or can we write a report that shows data by the hour like the following?

I.E.

1:00 AM - 42%

2:00 AM - 39%

3:00 AM - 41%

Hi Morgan,

There are some examples of extracting formatted metric data from Foglight using command line scripts in the blog article Foglight Reporting using Metric Queries or Groovy at http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/performance-monitoring/foglight-administrators/w/admins-wiki/5654.foglight-reporting-using-metric-queries-or-groovy

Hopefully that will give you some ideas.

Morgan,

There is no way to pull this data directly from the DB Repository. The Schema is not open.

You can pull this data out using groovy if you have to have it in excel.

If you are working with vFoglight the capacity planning reports should help instead of going down the excel path. vFoglight has a pretty strong reporting interface and could give you an hourly view or you could have the utilization over a month which might be more valuable to the Business.

Morgan,

I wanted to re-visit this with you. The Professional Services team built a solution for sale which will export any of the metrics/data collected by Fogligght/vFoglight to a medium which then could be stored into a Database of any type then allowing you to extract the data with excel or any other Database related tools.
