Quickref: How to migrate your vOPS database

If you're looking to move from an embedded database to an external database, or if you simply want to move your historical information from one appliance to another, there's a fairly simple process to do this.

1. Import a new copy of vOPS into your environment as if you were performing a new installation.

2. Connect your new vOPS VM to the database of your choice. (Embedded, SQL, Oracle)

3. With your old appliance running, go to the database settings of the new appliance and click the button that says "Migrate remote database".

4. Put in the IP address and login information for the old appliance (this will be the login for the console, not the web GUI. Default username: vkernel password: vkernel)

5. Click "Start Database Migration" and wait until the process completes. (It will take a significant amount of time, depending on your environment's size.

6. Once the operation finishes, you can power down or delete the "old" copy of vOPS and if you need to, change the IP address of the new appliance with the migrated data to take it's place on the network.
