About Blank-- in VISTA

Help PLEASE-I have a NEW Inspiron 1720-17in laptop- DUH- On start up it loads great but after 90 seconds the desk top goes WHITE SCREEN.Blank,I can hit Ctrl&Alt&Delete and get back to the sign off screen the hit task manager and get to my desk top. I have used System Restoe and I am good  to go.Updated everything again and I am OK.  Here's the problem, since I have used the RESTORE feature I believe that I have only MASKED the problem ,and "about blank" sits on my computer just waiting to come back to life if I screw up again { which I will ,we all know that }. What can I run to fix this lurking problem..  Is NETCOM3 any good and is trust worthy?

You may have some security setting that keeps your homepage from changing by you or by something else. Are you running Spybot's "Lock Homepage", Zone Alarm, or an anti-spyware application that prevents changes? If so, check those settings.

Some info here:

Try asking that question on the Vista Board. The "About:Blank"(CWS) infection has not been around for a long time.
If you actually see the words "About:Blank" check your browser settings. That usually is the URL interpreted by most web browsers as the command to display a blank HTML document.

Sorry to hear about "little one". Hope all is well soon. I doubt that your computer is infected. It's just a matter of getting your settings the way you want them.

I forgot to reply to your question about Netcom3. It is a rogue program.
It's in RogueRemover's Database. http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2855&hl=Netcom3

Just a quick question .. Are you saying that this program could or would be trouble ? I have not down loaded it,not even the free ware. I thought this program would get rid of spyware.

ANY suggestions on the BEST program to get to protect our computers?

I have Norton ,MS Defender,Spybot and McAfee      Norton on our 2 Dell deminsion  XP's

McAfee on my new laptop

Just looking for one or two programs to do the best think for our computers.

As I look through the DELL forums ,I am getting one heck of an education.

I do not want to be behind the 8 ball.   Thanks  Bob

Yes, a "rogue" is definitely trouble.
I think one anti-virus along with one realtime anti-spyware, such as Windows Defender, is fine. You could also use an on-demand scanner such as Super AntiSpyware or the Spybot that you already have.

What you have is fine. If you get too much security running in realtime, it will slow things down.

* Before using or purchasing any Spyware/Malware protection/removal program, always check the following Rogue/Suspect Spyware Lists.
