Ok, the workaround is to download the 0044.0000 current definition file for AAW 2007 manually from:
http://www.lavasoft.com/support/securitycenter/blog/

Unzip this downloaded file, and insert " core.aawdef" into your Ad-Aware 2007 folder at:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007

Now that's a heckuva update!   Unfortunately, after behaving itself for many weeks, my AAW 2007 refuses to recognise 0044.00000 I'm stuck at 0043.000, and AAW is telling me that no updates are available. Others are reporting this also in the Lavasoft AAW forum.   No doubt a temporary server glitch ...

Hi Bugbatter:   I wonder if I am doing something wrong with the update process. I don't see any other complaints so it probably something I have done or failed to do. I haven't paid very close attention, but I finally noticed today that this AdAware 2007 7.0.2.5 has not shown it as having updated since the the 7th of January, although I try to check for updates about every day.   The last few days when I press the update button I get the message 'Your definition file is up to date'. I then press OK and a new box immediately comes up saying that a new software update is available. After pressing OK again I am presented with a box that shows a tree like file structure like Explorer with an empty checkbox labeled AdAware under a heading called 'Object'. Under this checkbox is a subset of about 10 or so more boxes with a green check in them. Immediately to the right of these boxes is a bit larger green check mark. To the right of that check mark is a file or component of Adware in red type. A bit further to the right is the version number of that component, and finally a comment column on the far right.   This whole thing was presented as an AdAware Update Manager program update, but it can't seem to download and ends up hanging to where I have to do the 3 finger reset. This has happened twice. I would like to keep this app around for mostly sentimental reasons, but don't want to fuss with it as I have plenty of other security software available. Any ideas of what it might be...I haven't checked out the Lavasoft forum yet. And also...what might be causing applications to hang and then be difficult to 'End Now' I get a lot more of that happening on this computer than on any other I have had. As always, thanks for any ideas.

When there are problems with AA, it's usually good to post on Lavasoft's forums so they will know about issues and take care of any software bugs.

The same for Spybot. The developers monitor their forums, but I doubt that they come over here.

First thing I did was report to Lavasoft, and noticed several others had reported the same as much as 9 hours earlier, with no acknowledgement or fix apparent. No big deal, I guess, as long as I can manually download.

Except that I saw the same anomaly as did Dale: " you are up-to date" followed by an " updates available" followed by some program updates (but not the latest def's). Most peculiar, considering I check daily for updates!

In my books, AAW 2007 is (sigh) back on probation ...

This program is like an old friend even if really doesn't too all that much. But I think it is time for some tough love and I kicked it out of my computer until it sobers up. :smileytongue: I have never been able to quite understand the complicated and weird WinRAR thingy :smileyindifferent: I'll download it again in a few weeks after they get all the bugs eliminated. :smileywink:

ROFL - Love the analogy!

It's hard to turf out one of the only programs to ever detect and delete spyware on my PC (even if it was years ago), so I'll just send it into the corner for a "time-out".

At least until the Lavasoft forums come back online ...
