I posted in "Other Software" before I saw your message. I'm unable to get this new ad-aware update to download. I keep getting error message that the file could not be read. Have you actually gotten it downloaded and installed?

yes.   when i post the availability of ad-aware, spybot (or any other) updates here, I do so only after successfully downloading them.   i've had the same experience as you occasionally, that the file won't download  (or can't be read).... that usually is just an indication that their server is "overloaded" by demand at the time you were trying.   best thing is to wait a while, and try again.

if for any reason, the automated update (from within Ad-Aware) doesn't work, you can try MANUALLY downloading the updated definition/reference file from:

http://majorgeeks.com/Ad-aware_SE_referencefile_d726.html

I believe this downloads as defs.zip    you then have to UNzip it, to obtain the file defs.ref   then, copy (or move) this .ref file into your Ad-Aware directory, which (at least for me) is

c:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware SE Personal

NOTE:  keep in mind that you will have to overwrite (or delete) the older/existing copy of defs.ref
