Adware.Top search and Adware.BDE

Hi

Norton Antivirus picked up 3 Adware programmes but could not delete them.  They are:-

asm.exe Adware.Topsearch
asmps.dll Adware.Topsearch
sysdetect.dll Adware.BDE

Could anyone advise on how to remove them from my PC?

Many thanks

James

Just some information for you... not sure it will help you actually remove things, but:

ASM = Altnet Sharing (or Sharing)  Manager.
it is installed as part of Kazaa, Grokster, and/or Gator, and PERHAPS, if you no longer want/need these, and UNinstall them, it MIGHT get rid of the problem.

BDE = Brilliant Digital.
(its main program MIGHT be accessible via your control panel, under add/delete programs, as
B3d projector).

Hi

Thanks for the quick reply.  I had already uninstalled Kazaa and neither Kazaa nor B3d projector are in the add/remove programmes list.  Any further suggestions much appreciated.

Best wishes

James

i'll assume you can find the full path-listing to each of the files you want to remove.
for example, let's assume you can determine that the asm.exe file has a full-path-name
c:\directory1\subdirectory2\asm.exe                                         (note:  it may be much longer... )

then you can try the following:
click on START, then RUN.  when the RUN box opens, type in COMMAND and click OK.  this should open the MS-DOS command prompt window.
Then type the following 3 command lines, each followed by the enter key:
cd C:\directory1\subdirectory2\
attrib -r -h -s asm.exe
del asm.exe

hopefully, that will delete asm.exe

then, repeat the corresponding sequence for your other two files, asmps.dll, and sysdetect.dll, using their full path listings

when you're done, type EXIT followed by the enter key (or just hit the X in the upper right hand corner) to close the DOS command prompt screen.

let me know if this works.

Hi - Sorry for the delay in replying - I have been away on business.  I followed the instructions but in eacg case it said that the directory was invalid.  Can you suggest any other approaches.  Norton Antivirus is still picking up the files but cannot delete them.

Thanks

I was getting the same problems you are having with asm.exe and asmps.dll. Then I realized my CounterSpy program (they have a free trial version at http://www.sunbelt-software.com/CounterSpy.cfm) had already quarantined them, and Norton was still showing them as
threats.

So I would recommend checking to see if any of your anti-spyware programs already found it, like mine did.
Or, try something like CounterSpy to remove / quarantine it for you.

Hope that helps, good luck!
