Grot,

when you've posted the log, it appears you cut off the header portion. This contains valuable information about the version of HiJackthis being used, the current operating system, and any critical updates that need to be applied. I'll go ahead and work this one for you, but in the future, i'll need that information to make sure i'm posting back the correct solution. The newest version 1.98.2 picks up problems that previous versions do not; this might even effect your ability to restore deleted entry(s).

You have a potential trojan on your system. Read this article before beginning. It relates to some of the files listed below.

First, go to www.trendmicro.com, click " Free Online Scan". It'll take a few minutes to download and install. When it's done, select all available drives, then click " Scan".

(or)

Download and install " A squared 2" anti-trojan software. Be sure to update any trojan signatures before each scan. The trial version is free to download and use.

Reboot into " Safe Mode"

Run HijackThis, then check(tick) the following entry(s), if present:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://msaps.dll/search.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = res://msaps.dll/index.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://msaps.dll/search.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://msaps.dll/search.html

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = res://msaps.dll/index.html
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = res://msaps.dll/index.html

R3 - URLSearchHook: MailTo Class - {FDE3577A-6254-181C-4E11-339E4F746BD3} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\wins32t.dll

O2 - BHO: Tubby - {9EAC0102-5E61-2312-BC2D-76746C56544C} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\vtlbar1.dll
O3 - Toolbar: Search Toolbar - {9EAC0102-5E61-2312-BC2D-76746C56544C} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\vtlbar1.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tapisys] C:\WINDOWS\System32\tss.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [tapisys] C:\WINDOWS\System32\tss.exe
(trojan.win32.small variant)

Now, with all windows closed (except) HiJackThis, click " Fix checked".

Next, locate and  delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view hidden and system files.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\vtlbar1.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\tss.exe

Reboot your computer normally.

Post back a new log.

Mike.

Grot,

Good job!

I intentionally left the following entry(s):

O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm

If you didn't install this, i'd have HiJackThis fix them.

Mike.
