altnet

My Macafee Virus Scan keeps revealing several "unused program files" in C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\Altnet\*.dll and other altnet files with *.cab and *.exe extensions.  They cannot be deleted, quarantined or cleaned by Macafee.  Macafee suggested that if I want to get rid of them, that I should uninstall them manually.
From the best of my research, Altnet programs appear to be needed to speed up the downloads for Kazaa which I don't have.  I have no desire to keep these files and would like to delete them if I can.  However, I thought I would check here first before I start dumping what may be critical program files.  Please advise.

Nothing that lives in a TEMP file is critical.  Feel free to delete them if you can.

You might like to try Pocket Killbox:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/spyware/KillBox.zip

Unzip or Extract the .exe file to your desktop.  Then Open it and where it says Full Path of File to Delete, type in:

C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\Altnet

click on DELTREE and then press the red button.  Agree you want to delete it and see if it can.
