Okay, Goofichic,
We'll continue in this thread. Thanks for reposting your log.

Your AVG Anti-Spyware Guard that prevents bad changes to your Registry can also prevent good ones and interfere with our tool's doing a good job. Therefore, we need to temporarily disable AVG AS.
Open AVG Anti-Spyware. The main "Status" menu will appear. Select "Change state" to inactivate 'Resident Shield' and 'Automatic Updates'. Right-click on AVG AS in the system tray and uncheck "Start with Windows".
Go to Start > Run and type: services.msc
Press "OK".
In Services, click the "Extended tab" and scroll down the list to find AVG Anti-Spyware Guard.
When you find the guard service, double-click on it.
In the Properties Window > General Tab that opens, click the "Stop" button.
From the drop-down menu next to "Startup Type", click on "Manual".
Now click "Apply", then "OK" and close the Services window.
Don't forget to enable it again when we have finished cleaning.

Following that, Please download Combofix from here: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/combofix.exe
Or
http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
** Take note that the links are case sensitive

Save ComboFix to the desktop.

1. Double click on combo.exe & follow the prompts.
2. When finished, it will produce a logfile located at C:\ComboFix.txt.
3. Post the contents of that log in your next reply with a new HijackThis log.

Note:
Do not mouseclick Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause your system to stall/hang.
Do not proceed with the rest of the fix if you fail to run ComboFix.

Good job :)

Please download DrWeb-CureIt & save it to your desktop. DO NOT perform a scan yet.

Reboot your computer in SAFE MODE using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Scan with DrWeb-CureIt as follows:
  • Double-click on cureit.exe to start the program. An "Express Scan of your PC" notice will appear.
  • Under "Start the Express Scan Now", Click "OK" to start. This is a short scan that will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the Yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it.
  • Once the short scan has finished, Click Options > Change settings
  • Choose the "Scan tab" and UNcheck "Heuristic analysis"
  • Back at the main window, click "Select drives" (a red dot will show which drives have been chosen)
  • Then click the "Start/Stop Scanning" button (green arrow on the right) and the scan will start.
  • When done, a message will be displayed at the bottom advising if any viruses were found.
  • Click "Yes to all" if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, look if you can see the icon next to the files found. If so, click it, then click the next icon right below and select "Move incurable".
  • ( This will move it to the C:\Documents and Settings\userprofile\DoctorWeb\Quarantine folder if it can't be cured)
  • Next, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list.
  • Save the DrWeb.csv report to your desktop.
  • Exit Dr.Web Cureit when done.
  • Important! Reboot your computer because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log. (You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report)

Let me know how things are running. Thanks :)

Okay, the only thing weird I am noticing is that when I restart my computer, Mcafee has a warning that comes up in the corner of my screen saying something is trying to change my registry, this is when everything is booting up.  I then tell it to block the change and it gives me a note saying it blocked the below file or whatever.  Is this a concern?

SystemGuard: Internet Explorer Restrictions

Program: Drive Letter Access Component

Location: C:\WINDOWS\system32\DLA\DLACTRLW.EXE

That's good news so far. :) We have a bit more to do, and hopefully that will resolve the issue.

Run Disk Cleanup in each user's profile:
Click "Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup"
Please make sure the following are checked:
-- Downloaded Program Files
-- Temporary Internet Files
-- Recycle Bin
-- Temporary Files
Click "OK" and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. It is possible that you may be running Java code in your applications that absolutely require a specific version of the JRE to run. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2 allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.

  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u2-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Official JAVA Installation Instructions if needed.

Please post a fresh Hijackthis log for final review and let me know how things are running. Thanks :)

I am still getting the Mcafee error about registry change from that file which I already posted once before on this thread.  Here is my Log file though from doing the Java update and all that.  Any ideas on why this file still is trying to change the registry or what to do or not do or even if I should be concerned about it.

"I found out it is Sonic and I removed the program."

If you removed Sonic, you did not remove it completely. I would have rather taken it out of Startup.
Sonic's Drive Letter Access component allows you to drag and drop files directly to the CD-R or DVD-R drive on your computer, just as you would to any other folder. Drive Letter Access (DLA) writes the files onto the CD as you copy them, taking a lot of the complication out of burning CD or DVD discs with Windows.

If you would like to keep it from trying to run on Startup, first, reboot into Safemode:
Turn on the computer.
Immediately begin tapping the F8 key.
Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode and press the Enter key.

Run HijackThis and place a checkmark next to these lines to prevent it from running at Startup.
O2 - BHO: DriveLetterAccess - {5CA3D70E-1895-11CF-8E15-001234567890} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\DLA\DLASHX_W.DLL
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DLA] C:\WINDOWS\System32\DLA\DLACTRLW.EXE

Close all windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked".
Reboot normally.

I am reluctant to delete any files because I am not sure exactly what components of Sonic you removed when you uninstalled it. Therefore if checking those entries in HijackThis resolves the problem with McAfee, we'll let it go at that.

Everything else appears to be in good shape.

1. Delete Dr Web CureIt.
2. Please delete ComboFix and its quarantine folder along with these other files if they still exist:
C:\ QooBox
You may need to search for these:
catchme.exe
nircmd.exe
swreg.exe
Swxcacls.exe
Swsc.exe

You may want to keep HJT so you can post a log in the future if you ever have another problem -- assuming the tool does not have a newer version at that time.

I'm not going to ask you to flush your System Restore because, if you should have problem due to an incomplete removal of Sonic, you may need to Restore to an earlier date. Let's just create a Restore Point for today, now that the malware is gone so you have a clean one to go back to:
1. Logged on as Administrator, click Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools> System Restore.
2. Select the Create A Restore Point radio button. Then click Next.
3. Enter a descriptive name for your new restore point. For example, "Clean system". Then click Next.
4. A new restore point will now be created (This could take a minute or two.)
5. Then the "Confirm New Restore Point" window will appear showing the date and name of your brand new restore point. Click OK.

That should have you in good shape.

Here is my standard list of simple steps that you can take to reduce the chance of infection in the future.

You may have already taken some of these steps:
1. Visit Windows Update:
Make sure that you have all the Critical Updates recommended for your operating system and IE. The first defense against infection is a properly patched OS.
Windows Update: http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

2. Adjust your security settings for ActiveX:
Go to Internet Options/Security/Internet, press 'default level', then OK.
Now press "Custom Level."
In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to 'prompt', and 'Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe" to 'disable'.

3. Download and install the following free programs:
a. SpywareBlaster:
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
Tutorial here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial49.html
b. SpywareGuard:
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html
Tutorial here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial50.html
Periodically check for updates in both programs.

4. Please use a firewall and realtime anti-virus. Keep the anti-virus software and firewall software up to date.
Note: Zone Alarm Firewall (Zone Labs) http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/trial_zaFamily/trial_zaFamily.jsp?lid=home_freedownloads
Sunbelt Kerio has a free version: http://www.kerio.com/kpf_download.html

5. You might consider installing Mozilla / Firefox.
http://www.mozilla.org/

6. Install spyware detection and removal programs:
You may also want to consider installing either or both of AdAware (free version) and Spybot S&D (freeware). Use these programs to regularly scan your system for and remove many forms of spyware/malware.

a. Ad-aware: http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/

b. SpyBot S&D: http://safer-networking.org/en/news/2005-05-31.html

I would check for updates in SpyBot once a week or so.
Check for updates in Ad-aware frequently.

7. Before using or purchasing any Spyware/Malware protection/removal program, always check the Rogue/Suspect Spyware List.
Here is the link:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

8. If you have not already done so, you might want to install CCleaner and run it in each user's profile: http://www.ccleaner.com/
** UNcheck the option to install the Yahoo toolbar that is checked by default for the Standard version, or download the toolbar-free versions (Slim or Basic) when given the option for those.

9. If you use Adobe Reader it may need to be updated to be sure that you have a more secure version. If you are using a version prior to v. 6.05, you should update to 6.05, preferably version 8.1.0.
It would be best to remove prior versions before updating to a new version.
If you need additional assistance, the Adobe forums are here: http://www.adobe.com/support/forums/main.html

10. Make sure you are using the most updated version of Java.
The current version is Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2

You can go here to download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
Scroll down to where it says " Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2 allows end-users to run Java applications".

Click the link to download the Windows (Offline Installation) package: Save it, do not run it. When the download is complete, close the browser.

Remove all prior versions using Add/Remove Programs, and delete the Java folder in Program Files.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u2-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Official JAVA Installation Instructions if needed.
Reboot.

You're welcome. :)
No, you do not need to use ALL of those. Your McAfee Anti-virus, AVG AS, and SiteAdvisor that you are currently using are fine. Keep them. We post those standard prevention tips for people who are unprotected and for other members who may be researching these forums. As I mentioned, "You may have already taken some of these steps..."
