Antivirus warning for C:\ProgramData\Dell\SARemediation\plugin
Hi there,
I was recently on a website that automatically generated a series of pop-ups purportedly from Microsoft, claiming my laptop had been infected with malware. The instructions included a number to call to 'resolve the issue'. I assumed it was a scam and had to force close Chrome as the browser would not close as normal.
My Avira antivirus did not pick anything up, but I was concerned that maybe my system was infected, so ran a quick scan - nothing. I then downloaded Malwarebytes and ran a scan - nothing. I downloaded Malwarebytes ADW cleaner, ran a scan and that deleted to relatively innocuous looking files.
Finally I ran a full scan with Avira, which raised just one warning - that it could not open "C:\ProgramData\Dell\SARemediation\plugin\WreWim-20170121\windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-spp-main_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.14393.0_none_11bb623cc38f7474\spp.dll"
Is this a cause for concern? Are there any other steps I can take to make sure my computer is not infected?
Thanks,
Will
