Antivirus xp 2008
I've been on vacation for the last 2 weeks. When I got back, I found this antivirus software installed on my computer. Problem is that I didn't install it. I did a bit of research and it turns out its fake. But, when I try to visit websites to try and remove it, my browser says they don't exist. But on my laptop, the sites do exist. Is there a way to get rid of the spyware?
thanks

I just put a warning out on this page for this virus! I paid Dell to remove it-it took 2 hours-well worth the money! I do not know how I was so lucky to get this virus yesterday!
Be so careful of doing it yourself-you can ruin your files!
Good luck!

Flabble,
I understand Elinka's concern, having incurred a similar [or identical] problem...
but the tool I suggested [MBAM] has been used successfully to fix this issue. You should be entirely safe using it.

Here is a list of all the things MBAM removes:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/malwarenet.php
This is a repeat of ky331's instructions, but I've added a screen shot:
Please download to your desktop Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here
Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
- Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
- If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
- Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
- The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
- When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
- Make sure that everything is checked

- When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
- The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
- If you are still having problems and/or would like a follow-up check to be sure the infection as well as vulnerabilities are gone, copy and paste the entire report into a New Message on the HijackThis Board. Also include a fresh HijackThis log. Instructions for downloading HijackThis are at the top of that forum.
Extra Note:Click Remove Selected.
1. Just click the New Message button in the HijackThis forum here: http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board?board.id=si_hijack
to start your own thread requesting assistance for a follow-up check to be sure the malware is gone.
2. In the Message Body window that opens, simply Right-Click and select Paste.
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.
