Computer Has Virus & No Internet Accessibility-- Please Help!

Okay, here's what happens when I turn the computer on---

1) RUNDLL Error Message-- "Error loading C:/Progra~1\WLLDTA~1\APPS\CDA\CDAENG~1.DCC"
2) "Virus Definitions Update Reminder" window pops up
3) Parasite Alert Error Message-- "Virtual Bouncer has found a parasite on your computer. Parasite is monitoring the URLs that you visit. Would you like Virtual Bouncer to remove this parasite from your computer?"

When I try to access the internet, the hourglass pops for about 4-5 seconds, then goes away & nothing happens. So, when I try to update the virus definitions as described in #2 above, nothing happens because the system has to open the browser. When I say "yes" to #3 above, it then askes for credit card information. (not really sure what all is being monitored, so I don't want to enter any credit card numbers)

Not being able to access the internet poses another problem. I found the FAQ of "I think my system is infected. What do I do first?" Unfortunately, I could only perform Step I (disk cleanup) since the other steps require one to access the internet.

This same problem happened about a month ago & I called Dell & spoke to a technician. They walked me through a system restore & this seemed to fix the problem. (didn't receive error messages anymore & was able to access the internet) However, about 2 days ago, the problem surfaced once again. I phoned Dell again & they informed me that I needed to reimage my computer. I do have the reinstallation CD for WMe, but I'm missing the Dimension Resource CD. They told me I could download the drivers I needed from the Dell website, but I'm not sure which drivers I need.

As you can see, I'm not sure which direction I need to go in. Any advice would certainly be appreciated!

Sal,

It's no problem at all - i've been out for almost a week also. Let's start with a fresh HiJackThis log and i'll see what we need to do from there.

Mike.

Mike, I knew you were going to say that! I actually tried to do that on Friday, but, due to my computer running so slow, I could never open the HijackThis! application from my disk. I no longer have access to the internet anymore either. Absolutely nothing works! So, with all of these problems, and the computer being 5 years old, I went out this weekend and purchased a laptop. My father builds computers & is head of a robotics lab @ a university in TX, so I'll have him take a look at it when I move back to TX. (Currently in DC)

Anyway, thanks for all your help. Sorry I gave up, but it was just too frustrating!

Sal
